Hmmmm. A hybrid option.

Details on engineering / suspension design

I bet wheeling types will replace the rear diff cover with one that has a drain plug built in.

A curmudgeons pov.

Price, appearance, technologic options aside; Ford brought to market a vehicle that was fully intended to be used offroad, and is priced well. The wheel tire options alone trump Land Rovers new offering in every way.
I think this thread is indicative of how far Mcgovern missed the mark with the current American market, the largest in the world, and one that a financially struggling company seemingly should have been very, very, in tune to. Comments above are mostly favorable for the Ford. The new Defender thread comments are mostly criticisms. One is appealing, the other isn't. Trading on heritage & catering to a designers ego aren't going to sell trucks & insure survival, given the competitions offerings.

Very well said and very true on all counts.

The Wrangler isn’t a retro design. It has never changed or disappeared and returned. The Bronco is a retro design as they brought it back but kept it true to the original with obvious design features that aren’t in line with modern car design. The Defender is not a retro design. It is a redesign that has hints of a thought about another hint of something that resembled a part of an idea about a piece of an old Defender.

I love it. I was and am harsh on the Defender— I think it sucks. But Bronco I’d consider if I was in that market...

The new defender.... I’ve been struggling to define why it doesn’t work for me. It doesn’t work for me on an emotional scale. Neither do Toyota’s. It’s too car like. It’s too 2006 Freelander for me.

I currently drive a fiat (Grand Cherokee) but no question here on what would be in my garage.

I heard about the Marlin Crawler IFS kit for Toyotas on the Truckshow podcast the other day. I'm sure there will be something like this for the new Bronco very soon as well. Front clearance looks great.

Total Chaos has offered a similar setup for Toyotas for years, probably developed for the "prerunner" crowd. Not sure what the pricing is on the RCV components but I expect it's cheaper than "HD" rover hardware and can handle >33" tires.
