Last week I pulled the drop arm to replace a bad ball joint, which went smoother than expected as the last ball joint only lasted 5k miles. While poking around I determined it was the right rear upper shock mount that was causing my aggravating banging sound, as the threads were stripped. Ordered the part from RN, immediately sensing deja-vu, which of course I ignored. Two days later, I realized the deja-vu was because I had ordered the upper shock mount from RN in 2019, and forgot to install the damn thing. canceled part, found the mount in my box of parts, and installed. Without the banging from the loose rear shock,I could hear a clicking when I accelerate. Ordered swivel grease and parked it. Today I spent an obsessive amount of time cleaning the swivels, which of course spilled over to cleaning the transfer case and the underside. Driver’s was filled without drama, but not much came out and an entire pouch went it. Made the rookie mistake of draining the passenger swivel before removing the filler plug because the driver’s came off easyish, so the passenger HAD to be easy. Ruined two 13mm wrenches trying to remove filler plug. Broke out the torch, cursed whomever tightened the plug, and made no progress. Learned why 8pt sockets exist, and ordered.
