Spy shot of new Defender

The africa concept is appealing, the most appealing truck Ive seen in a while. I like the 4 Runners always have, the current with the high belt line and long hood are cumbersome. Hard to beat the view from the driver seat of the D90, Disco or Classic

This is so true. After driving a D90 and D1 for several years, everything else is no comparison in seating position. FZJ80 feels like you're level with the hood. Sports car seating with tractor performance. L322 is a little better, as is UZJ100. Not sure about the Jeeps these days, my old wrangler wasn't bad though.

My wife commented over the holidays while riding in my Defender how great the seating is and how fun it is to look out above everything (she drives a LR4 everyday).
I had a 2013 Wrangler unlimited and is wasn't that bad for driver position and the Africa looks to be a winner in my book if they offer it by year end.

I related news the new Land Rover magazine Onelife features a story on Ratan Tata and how he saved Land Rover Jaguar and I think it is true. I think he understands the history of both brands and I hope they release a Defender replacement knowing the history of the mark.

The vision while driving is seriously one of the reasons I drive all kinds of Rovers.

It cant be beat. I remember at how amazed I was at the seating in a DI, I couldn't see the traffic light but I could see everything else..

JLR refers to it as "the Land Rover Command Seating Position" and it's true, it's a superior location, offering a better vantage point of the surroundings (other than traffic lights) LOL.

Friend of mine has a 2014 Jeep... I find the front seating position very cramped and clostrophobic compared to the Defender.

I'm keeping the faith that JLR will come up with a winner. It's not going to be a Defender as we know it, (haters are gonna hate), but I think it will be a better performer than the Jeep. I think it's all going to come down to what they do with different model spec.

I had a Disco Sport yesterday and I would drive that over any Jeep. Ok maybe I would drive a Wrangler.

The sky roof was amazing.

I have a bad back so the lumber and heat was the best I have used that I remember.

Each time either my wife or I drive or ride in the D1 or RRC, we seem to comment on this aspect. And the same applied when we had our 109 SW.

It really is one design aspect LR got right.

My Defender seats bother my back. I always find myself sitting forward in it with my back off the seat back. I would like to try sitting in the Puma seats to see if it is any better.

Well we do know it will be based on the Disco 5, so given the alternatives, That doesn't look half bad. But, I wouldn't be shocked if that config is north of $75k.

I'm almost certain this is a pretty close guess at what it will look like. Details will be different, but I'm betting this is "it".

It isn't.... it isn't too horrible... IF they would please, please, make the bumper a proper off road bumper. Give us some stock clearance. Give us the ability to run 16" wheels with good tires. Fix that front end face. And never loose the good visibility (think JF Cruiser....).

It's better than I thought it would be, honestly.. but yes, give us some flexibility with offroad setup. And please don't start at $50k entry point.

If that's what it ends up being.. It's not horrible.. But it won't hold much more attraction or interest for me than any other new car, aside from what it earns with actual quality and capability

Close guess... It's still just a better version of the photoshopped DC100s. I think hoping it's like this is wishful thinking because we all know that the brand is on a track towards death as anything unique.

This would have been good instead of the DC100. DC100 was unveiled in 2011. 6 years later LR hasn't shown us anything. They're busy getting it wrong again.

Land Rover is like an alligator now....

...everything they make tastes like chicken... er... Ford....

Honestly, I'd take that Mercedes pickup way before anything Rover is offering right now. But I'd keep my Defender and Series, of course... and be on the look out for a clean DI while helping my son with the LWB RRC that I'm handing over to him. But the Mercedes pickup would be great to haul parts.
