Spy shot of new Defender

Yeah unless you can look at it and imediately see strong influence of the defender line on its appearance they really won't get any benefit out of calling it a defender. I'm not expecting much

I don't consider that paragraph loss of hope. I remember when the Wrangler replaced the CJ back when I was a heeper, and oh God did the Jeep community go ape shit. "Real Jeeps Have Round Headlights" t-shirts where flying off the shelves.

Same thing with the LR3 replacing the D2, but I think we can all agree that the LR3 was a major improvement in many ways.

I don't have a problem with IFS, IRS, air suspension, a control module for everything, a new design, unibody/monocoque chassis. I have a problem with big rims and a ridiculous price point. The 110 double cab wannabe that is effectively a honda ridgeline for $70 grand is my problem.

100% agree. Obviously they are going to want to make a new car with modern tech. Make it as capable as possible.. The concern for me is.. Make it look like a defender or font bother calling it one. It seems a pretty simple strategy and one that jeep has proven to be successful.

A lot of Jeep fans hated the new Cherokee. Some have come around to accept it for what it is. It will never be the old Cherokee, just like the new Grand Cherokee will never be the old GC. The new Disco will never be the old Disco either. We have to accept a certain amount of change and compromise. LR is a luxury brand today, not the farmer's choice any more.

The old defender style couldn't be adapted for the modern world, so it is silly to think the ground up recreation is going to look anything like it.

But aside from the hand made single panel build this is not true. Wrangler Unlimited is proof. They just refuse to build something that doesn't fit into Gerry McGovern's "uber luxury" (blase) design mold.

Thank you, exactly the point I was making
It seems so obvious to me.

Whatever they call it, I just hope it isn't a "D90" or "D110"...where did that shit come from anyway? Call it a bleeping Defender or 90 or 110. No more of this "D" hubaloo.

There is lots of history in the 90/110/127/130 names. Once upon a time, there wasn't a Defender, just names 90/110/127 aka 130.

Its NAS common usage to call it a d90/d110. A merger of the names. Which LR kinda sort picked up on with the DC100

Well for starters the whole driver seat-steering wheel-door geometry would have to be changed to include airbags. It's not really a small redesign. That would have been much cheaper in the long run. Yeah they could have made a Wrangler copy, but do you think they would be able to compete on price? A tricked out Wrangler can be had for under $50k. The Heritage 90 was about $47k and lacked all the safety needed for the US market. The new Disco starts at $50k. There isn't a lot of wiggle room for a Defender to sit in.

He said style not design. I know the old design couldn't just magically get airbags or ever meet side impact criteria. The wrangler unlimited is jeep style and modern that meets the customer demand. Land Rover couldn't make a car for less than $50k?

They could easily compete by having a Jeep 4 door equivalent with third row, more storage/load capacity, and better feel. People would have flocked to it to stay away from being another Jeep owner. LR will release their mew Defender too late. Toyota will have probably produced whatever the FT-X4 is going to be, the 4runner will continue to sell, jeep will have the pickup, ford will have the bronco and ranger quad cab, and the chevy/gmc Colorado/Canyon will have finished clearing up the market. The new Defender will show up and not sell further vindicating McGovern's plan for Land Rover uber luxury.

What ever comes out, it will be very hard to displace Toyota/Nissan in Africa, middle east etc as the remote driving truck of choice.

No, I get it. I understand the nomenclature...been around these for a while. Just never heard of it until I moved back to the states. Odd is all.

Can't read it.

I hold to my prediction. It will be the DC100, with only the details changed for production.

Sorry, I should have said that it is requiring me to log in to read it.

Also, I think it's funny that according to the Google search from my phone, Aronson is basically off line since 2015, and it looks like his Twitter and YouTube accounts have been hacked.

Found it through a different link, but it is discussing an old Defender rescuing a new Discovery. I thought you were saying they brought a new Defender with them!

Probably correct. The disappointing part is that it will have been at least 10 years since the DC100 was revealed before we get to see it on the road.

In the meantime, they could have done what Jeep did, would have taken half the time, and would have been a best seller....
