Cummins Repower ISF 2.8 for Defenders

Oh man, I want one so badly. I wonder how angry my wife would be if I started a repower project in the garage...

I?d hate to cut and weld my galvy frame, too. :(

I'm fitting the engine to a 2.5 90 chassis that I had galvanized. I have no intention of cutting and welding on the chassis so the fab work will be done on the engine side brackets. That said, the way I am building this one I am mounting the lt230 to the frame and the seeing where that puts me up front.
What I will make for this truck will only work for this particular combination however as it is mated to a 6l80e 6 spd automatic trans. A different/manual trans would place the engine differently.

As Dave say's " an angle grinder and mig welder make the world a more interesting place"

Maybe I should start a new threat for this question.
As I'm lurking on this thread and coveting a ISF 2.8 for my 110 this question came to me, would a 2.8 work in a LR3?
I personally rebuilt my '06 4.0 SOHC (Ford motor by the way) and pulling the motor was more straight forward than I thought. If you could isolate the LR3's subsystems so that the computers don't take a dump would it work?
Thoughts?

Yes, please start a new thread. We have a whole section here for Cummins ISF2.8, so let's diversify it and get some threads going.

Given our early commitment to ISF2.8, I hope that NAS-ROW is the first board to get photos of the installs that are happening. :)

Please start threads when you do. Really looking forward to this. I think that photos and good write-ups are going to sell these conversions.

I just got my official announcement from Cummins a little bit ago

I?ve personally communicated with many of you on this distribution list over the past few years while we were crafting this program. We share the same passion and addiction for unique, reliable, and most importantly - fun personal transportation. I couldn?t be more excited to announce that the start of sales is finally here!

We have worked feverishly since our announcement at the SEMA Show in 2016 to ensure that our first crate engine we bring to market doesn?t disappoint. To show our appreciation for each of you who have eagerly and patiently been awaiting this day, we wanted to give you all an exclusive heads-up and first chance to buy before our press release goes on the afternoon of September 29.

We are limiting quantities for 2017 to 500 engines so if you urgently need an engine, be ready to act quickly on Friday, September 29 at 9 a.m. Eastern at www.CumminsRepower.com. The only way to buy a Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel will be through our website so be sure to secure yours as early as possible!

You?re not just getting an engine. Our team is made up of Enthusiasts just like you so we know how disappointing it can be to open a new box of toys only to find out that you have to do homework and order more parts to make it work. We are essentially providing everything you need to start your engine with the exception of a battery, cooling package, and of course, diesel fuel!

Today's the day gents.
One engine being ordered today is worth much more than years of speculative talk.
Who's buying today in less than 2 hours?

Ohhh, I'm soooo tempted...

Practically speaking, the engine and trans mounts just seem like a nightmare right now.

Not for sale in the state of Texas??

Well.... dealbreaker

J/K

The engine and trans mounts probably arent that difficult.
Like Doug said, start at the LT230 and work forward.

That's pretty much what I did when I put a Tdi in my RRC because I didnt have any templates to work from.
Added plus with a Defender, you can remove the body so much easier to allow for working space.

I agree, mounting it is the simple part. Intercooler piping, exhaust, clearance for the gearbox, clearance to axles and steering, transfer case shifter mounting and linkage. Those are the custom jobs that consume time.

Well.... dealbreaker.

I didn't see any limitations for shipping locations and I thought the wait was for approval to sell in California and all other states were not a problem.
Did someone try to buy in TX and it wasn't allowed?

The 90 day warranty starting from the time delivered to its new owner isn't long enough in my book. Especially as Cummins defines delivery as the moment the engine is placed on the common carriers truck at their warehouse.
Yes it's FOB their factory. So get insurance on the shipment to protect you against damage.
