$9K feels completely fair. That's a complete engine with new ancillaries, right? You're easily at $9K for a crate reman 300Tdi and new ancillaries.

(I'm referring to ancillaries bolted onto the motor...pumps, etc.)

Crate engines carry a manufacturers multi year warranty and support. Junk yard engines come with a snicker and a wave good bye.

Didn't you have issues with a used engine ?

Why are you taking this negatively ? All I wanted to know if it came with a trans .

Like I said the pricing seems fair enough if to are having a shop do the work and comparing it to a crate engine not a junkyard engine .
Then the high price seems legit

Yea I had major issues with a used engine , just like most of the people who bought early used Defenders. In the long run I ended up with anither short block and a full rebuild .

Offical announcement

I just got my official announcement from Cummins a little bit ago

I?ve personally communicated with many of you on this distribution list over the past few years while we were crafting this program. We share the same passion and addiction for unique, reliable, and most importantly - fun personal transportation. I couldn?t be more excited to announce that the start of sales is finally here!

We have worked feverishly since our announcement at the SEMA Show in 2016 to ensure that our first crate engine we bring to market doesn?t disappoint. To show our appreciation for each of you who have eagerly and patiently been awaiting this day, we wanted to give you all an exclusive heads-up and first chance to buy before our press release goes on the afternoon of September 29.

We are limiting quantities for 2017 to 500 engines so if you urgently need an engine, be ready to act quickly on Friday, September 29 at 9 a.m. Eastern at www.CumminsRepower.com. The only way to buy a Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel will be through our website so be sure to secure yours as early as possible!

You?re not just getting an engine. Our team is made up of Enthusiasts just like you so we know how disappointing it can be to open a new box of toys only to find out that you have to do homework and order more parts to make it work. We are essentially providing everything you need to start your engine with the exception of a battery, cooling package, and of course, diesel fuel!

What kind of BHP to the wheel do these things promise? Just curious.

Torque: 267 lb-ft @1500-3000 RPM*
Horsepower: 161 hp @ 3600*

I think for us already TDI guys it might make more sense to invest in some nice engine mounts (200TDI @Rdavis MB mounts!), intercooler, turbo, exhaust etc. then spend $9k + everything else (I would say at least another $3k). I think a 2/300 can get close enough for a couple grand.

100% true but this is really for the Jeep market. The rest of the installs are gravy for them. If you can get a few Rovers and IH and other misc sales the world is a better place for Cummins.

F that! I'm done with aluminum heads! Cast iron block and head = bullet proof

Every engine referred to world wide on overland vehicles as completely reliable are all iron.

& the max torque (power) no's on the Cummins are hit @ 1500 rpm. This is their de-tuned for best emissions for epa certification hp and torque ratings. Being a common rail computer controlled engine where the ecu see's egt's etc the engine can be turned up considerably with little to no risk.
The engine is being used in other applications with appx 208 hp and well into the 300's on torque. I asked for that tune and was told, later down the road.

Oh man, I want one so badly. I wonder how angry my wife would be if I started a repower project in the garage...

I?d hate to cut and weld my galvy frame, too. :(

There's no need to adapt the ZF with an existing auto conversion and adapter to LT230

Rocky, I realize that. I'm trying to nail down joining the Cummins 2.8 to the front of a Zf4HP22 automatic with Zf's largest, highest power torque converter.
