Grenadier

It did not sell well because they did not update it in 47 years. It was out of date when it came out in 83. A proper modernized version has been desperately desired since 1970.
Didn't JLR just do that? 🤣

It might end up being like the Cybertruck; i.e., just some billionaire's ego thing.

Ego? No way. that is a crowd source (paid) truck that will be on Mars, just Earth tested first. :p

I think price will determine if it goes fleet. Definitely seems to stick to the basic principles. but time will tell.

Yes, but the real question is will you keep your Defender and get a Grenadier?

...Well, and what will this do to our Defender prices?

Of course I will keep my Defender. I wouldn't do trips with my buddies in anything else. A Grenadier, for me, is a replacement for my Ram 2500. It's something fun to drive around, with 4WD and (hopefully) modern car dependability.

Likewise. The Grand Cherokee replacement for me, though I bought it for the diesel. Not thinking they will bring the BMW diesel here but there is hope since it lives here now. This really has nothing to do with my current Defender situation as if this unicorn comes to light, it will be my DD and the Defender will be ancillary ride.

Looks like they may be a change to where they are going to manufacture. They are looking at the Mercedes-Benz Hambach site in Moselle, France. It just came up for sale, and would probably be more cost effective than Wales.

The BMW powertrain is going to keep this in the consumer, first world environment, unless there is strong support in more remote regions for BMWs. I see Europe, Middle East, Russia and former communist countries.

"I have told the CEO that abandoning Bridgend at this late stage, after so much effort and money has been invested in preparing the site, would be a terrible decision for Wales and the UK," said Mr Skates.

Yea, well, Brexit was a terrible decision for the UK, too. Elections have consequences. I bet they can pick up that old Smart Car factory for a decent price.

Gonna need a emission compliment motor (be it gas or diesel), to get the project off the ground, get sales in the UK, Europe & US. Maybe they might make a special option for aid agencies that’s exempt with a more basic engine or BMW can ‘dumb down’ the diesel so it runs ‘bare bones’ without a lot of CANBUS stuff ??

The guy that makes the LRW videos said they’d been in discussions with his company & they run a very large fleet of 90’s era ROW spec 300tdi 110’s in Africa & Afghanistan etc. as ambulances.

Could also be tax implications too, could work out cheaper in the long run to pay duty into the UK rather than into the EU from the UK, also, EU, ROW and US is the larger market for LHD, making RHD more the niche product these days.

I doubt there any military vehicles made today that don’t have some kind of communications network such as CAN bus or Flexray

A late model GM small block/gearbox in conjunction with a 1/2 ton running gear, 4:10 ring gear (minimum) a 4:1 transfer case (geardriven) like an LT230 would be dreamy. Tuck it all up underneath ala Land Rover it would be a no brainer..

Sorta what I’m building, 5.3 LM7, NV4500, Behemoth doubler, LT230 then am making some 609 axles to get the lighter weight & ground clearance with almost D60 strength.
