Doug Shipman is Rover royalty.
That was my point; well said. Him, Timm Cooper etc.
It’s funny to me because I have been around rovers for almost 25 years so most of these people I know by reputation, if not personally. Shipman and Timm were around for quite a while when I started Some who were “new” back then (Ike Goss comes to mind) are now part of the old guard. Not saying other people can’t do good trucks, and there are others who do make excellent trucks, and I have some people with no experience do excellent builds (the wealth of information internet makes this easier than it was when I started when you had the repair manual and Haynes manual), but the influx of new people into the business has brought some not great trucks around.
Anyway, I rather have the shipman rover posted than some tarted up import. I rather have faded and dented panels than fresh paint and bondo.
And just to say it, that’s a SII or SIIa bulkhead and the 90/110 windscreen frame was modified to fit the early mounts on the bulkhead. The front body panels and doors look like they are off an 83/84 90 or 110 with the SII headlight surrounds. It looks like it has an 88in wheel base and based on the reference to a RRC chassis, it seems that was shortened and customized. Lots of galvy bits. Lockers, winch etc. My guess is if you saw it in person and knew what you were looking at you would be very impressed. Sadly, the pics are limited and I have not seen it in person.
