Grenadier

Detour is an apt name. When Land Rover started down this route that eventually consumed the company, they called it Velar.

@erover82 was right šŸ˜„

The transformation will be complete the moment they offer a wide-body kit.

The V8 swap and the rally truck are interesting

"This video explains the pricing... beefy = costly"

I suspect that the real issue is the fact that this is a low-volume vehicle (for better or worse).
Due to economies of scale, Ford will sell you a larger, heavier, even 'beefier' F-250 for much less than the Gren.

That video was still well worth watching, and the Gren. is slowly growing on me.

I'd have a very hard time with an F-250 equally in a SoCal grocery store parking lot and on Mineral Creek in Colorado.
Not that this convenience is worth $10k or so...

^ These trucks do look good in action. It's mostly the front end that doesn't work for me aesthetically (likewise with the New Fenders, though that has a very different look). The right kind of brush bar could fix that for both.

There are several auxiliary coolers behind that fat ugly front bumper on a Grenadier. Not sure if there's an elegant way to replace it.
As far as action goes... I don't remember having any traction issues on Mineral Creek in Ouray with both D1 (front/rear TT) or Classic (front open/rear TT, LT230). The Grenadier needed the rear locker most of the time, and once - the front locker as well. The trail may have changed - if you're familiar with it, the soft edge is constantly eroded while rock shelf on the other side stays put.
I did beat up the gas tank skidplate on the Grenadier a fair amount. Glad I made a transmission pan skidplate before the trip - it also has a ding in it.

My next door neighbor owns several ford dealerships and is always trying to get me to upgrade my 2015 F250 to a new one. To get one reasonably equipped youā€™d be spending $80k and to get what I have now (leather and a rear locker) itā€™s well over $90k. This also isnā€™t really an off road vehicle, but it is great in many ways.

I would argue that an F250 is a more viable off road vehicle than a new defender. Itā€™s only .6ā€ wider, but has a truly selectable rear locker, 1000 ft lbs or torque, and an infotainment system that actually works.

You sent me down the 'build your own' rabbit hole... perhaps the most extensive options list I've seen. "Onboard scales," "trailer TPMS," etc.

The front end is pretty fugly. Looks great from other angles though.
