I walked from my preorder and they emailed me saying there were options inbound if I wanted to circle back. I believe there will be supply for those who want them. I need a closer dealership to make me feel comfortable with the initial purchase for a first gen vehichle.

That was my big hang up. If my dealer wasn't 15 miles away I would have waited also.

Yeah, mine is a solid 1.5 hours away without traffic. At the time there were two wiring recalls and I just got nervous. Will see how the roll out goes.

I make these comments with sincerity and among friends... my only negative observation so far is seeing a whole lotta' rust when I viewed in person. Rusty bolt heads; rusty components. The TFL video showed unpainted hubs that were rusty (in dry Colorado). Reminds me of 1993 NAS 110s on the dealer lot. Maybe it's a "UK THING??" Will be interested to see how these resolve over time. Maybe they're nominal? Maybe they're insidious (anyone here remember warranty replacement of NAS doors within 24 months of delivery?)

I agree. I have gone over mine and put a drop of Tri-flow on every exposed T30 and T40 bolt. It is important to say that the undercarriage, frame and body are substantially rustproofed. Kinda like a RN waxoil junkie from 1998. So at this point I don’t have any corrosion fears.

Looks like a black fastener was specified and someone mistakenly chose black oxide instead of a better alternative.
Too true. Reminds me of the RN Defender SS bolt kits…

Also, I’ve been riding bikes with black oxide fasteners for over 40 years and my oldest examples are still rust free. They also get the Tri-flow trick…

Saw my first Gren yesterday heading south out of Minden, NV. Looked like a road trip in process. Mushroom. Gave him the thumb's up and V sign. Definitely won't be mistaken for anything else, except a Defender, but only at long distance. Sehr geil.

My 7000-mile average MPG is 14. That's "gallons paid for at the pump"/"miles driven by odometer."
The Grenadier's odometer is phenomenally accurate with stock tires.
...
That said, my Classic's mileage is hovering between 11 and 12 mpg.

Did anyone sign up for this?

Got the email on Thurs March 28 but wasn't able to firm up plans, check flights, and respond until that Sunday night. I assume I was just too late since there hasn't been any contact. Even though I didnt follow through on my order, this is absolutely what this vehicle is built for and I'd love to do this.

Edit: This was short turn - trip is May 4-12

Nice little walk through from Hoovie. I'd be interested if he ends up buying one and if he does I hope he gives it a test through his mini off road course at his house.

Pricing is out on Quartermaster.

$86900 starting in US, includes chicken tax

really not as bad as I expected with 25% tacked on. I would assume they have solid profitability on the grenadier too based on inference from the 25%

edit2: and a chassis cab version just announced. tray beds for the win. would be really cool to send one to NutHouseIndustries and see what they could build.

I honestly think that before they hit the NA streets that Magna relationship will help them "assemble" the Quartermaster in Canada or US to get around that tax.

I went to 2 prerelease events where they were very open about discussing legal process and taxes. The pickup didn't have a name at the time and they already said they would pay the chicken tax. It would be a big surprise to me if they did something to skirt that tax. They act as if they care about reputation, etc. I don't see them taking any risks or doing anything that makes them looked on unfavorably.

I hope they do everything they can to legally avoid the chicken tax. It just gets passed straight on to buyers. Getting the price down is the best thing they can do for their reputation.
VW built a factory in Westmorland, PA to manufacture the Rabbit pickup in 1979.
Subaru put seats in the bed of the Brat.
Tons of stuff gets done to new import vehicles once they hit the ports here in the USA before they ship to dealers. There are a number of reasons for this, including taking advantage of the regs.
