COVID19

The rate of upcoming job loss and unemployment are quite honestly terrifying. Small businesses are selling cheap gift cards to stay alive. People need to stay home, so we can get rid of this shit.

Hats off to those in the industries keeping us going.

We have to wear full PPE on every EMS response. Our big concern is if one of our responders tests positive. We are being exceptionally cautious to assure we can keep running calls.
Yeah us too, we've been issued masks but not suits just yet.

Restoring a M416 trailer so keeping busy. Put down primer today. My haircut was scheduled for yesterday until they closed down all salons, gyms. Etc. Might have to bring back my hairstyle from the 1970'S.

I have to give my boss a WFH proposal on Monday along with my two coworkers. Someone will have to keep the lights on though so we three have to provide at least 40 FTE's at the shop, with the rest coming from WFH hours. Seems to me that it should be one of us, not three taking turns if social distancing is to work as described. Tough times. Take care all, this too shall pass.

I think if I owned a business right now, I'd right away go into ultra low power sleep mode. Start talking to whoever I might owe money to, etc... Which, come to think of it, is pretty much what we will be doing with the AirBnB house in the next few weeks. We had it up and running and have been very successful with it since Thanksgiving, but now we are seeing enough cancellations that we will be losing all that profit just as quickly as we made it. This is not how we make our living though, just that we will be out the expense every month till things turn back to "normal".

The one thing I keep hoping for is that everyone from top to bottom just be willing to push the pause button and take the lowest loss you can. Everyone is going to lose a lot of revenue in this, but if everyone in the chain of debt just goes into limp mode at the same time, at least a lot of people can come out of it on the others side and restart, even from a low spot. Just praying that will be the case.

Have any of you seen that there is a bit of promise about a particular drug cocktail helping people fight this thing? Not a vaccine, or "cure", more like what they give to AiDs patients to be able to fight it and recover. Something to do with ebola and malaria drugs combined.

Here is my experience so far with this.

I got out of the military end of Sept. Hired by a big cargo company, but didn’t have a start date in the near term so I applied for a regional airline job. Started training beginning of Feb. Just finished initial training and have had a roller coaster of info from the company. Big picture is they are pausing training so I will wait to finish sims and get the type rating. Luckily they are going to keep paying all those in training rather than furlough. I think this will only last for a month or two then COVID-19 either blows over and everything is back to business as usual or practically everyone in the airline industry gets furloughed.

In the meantime, I used my flight benefits to fly to California to get one of the two remaining vehicles I have there still to drive to VA. There were 15 pax on the IAD to LAX leg.(incredibly unsustainable). This is proving to be a nightmare as one of my favorite past times of slowly crossing the country and taking time off at stops to sight see or enjoy a meal at a local establishment has been ruined by the response to the virus. To make matters worse I’ve had a few stops that have taken 15-20 minutes of driving around to find a place with an open toilet.

Currently in Texas and going to buy a couple of guns I have been wanting and now have actual motivation to purchase. I don’t think it’ll get to that point, I think I just need to mentally justify the purchase.

The aftermath of this virus could be bad; however, I wish people responded accordingly to the other top 10 leading causes of death in the US. Suicide takes close to 50k a year in the US and a disproportionate amount of those are veterans. I wish that the amount of public awareness on suicide was higher. It feels like the media is driving this bus and the passengers actually wanted to be on it.

That's a bummer. My wife and I were planning on taking a month or so to drive to Va for a friends went that was supposed to be in June. We were going to spend another month in Va. It is sounding more and more like this isn't going to happen. My friend is already planning on postponing the wedding.

I scrapped so far:
April Rover/Diving/Touring trip in Israel
April Hawaii diving trip
April Wife meet me in Hawaii to look for a place to retire
Yes, I took the month of April off which I will probably spend in my house. I hate the Kung Flu!
I think by June you will be able to travel wherever you want and gas will be super cheap.

I will be off till June 15, last night the governor asked all dentists in Oregon to not see patients except for emergencies. Donated 700 masks to the ER today and several boxes to the pharmacies in town. One gal got teary eyed as I handed the boxes over. It’s going to be rough. Lots of time to work on projects.

@RBBailey my wife works in medical education and said even if completely fast tracked we won't have anything until next year. Things already on the market make it much easier, but still require trials and approval.

That's about the extent of what I know or am told, so a bit of a bummer but at least everyone is racing towards it.

If you haven't seen this, take a look.
As the US starts testing the official numbers will rise. The US started the week sub 3000 official positives. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/

There are so many people out there who have it, don't really feel it too bad but don't get counted in the official tally as there aren’t testing.

Please don't post any more of this type of stuff. This information is all over the media and you don't have to look far to find it. Speaking for myself here, I want our site to remain a place where people can take a break from the fear and share there personal stories about getting through this.
