Ron, I would of gone with the "galvanized" duct tape to prevent further rust...
Funny enough, I don’t have any galvanized (aka silver) only black and white.

I gave up trying to patch it and ordered a galvanized replacement from Zack (scratch and dent one), but I figure this will look ok until I get around to getting it replaced.

Made progress this week on the hardtop to softtop conversion... found the legroom lacking with the new seats, so put in a bulkhead delete kit from RN. Discovered the bracketry interfered with the Safety Devices lower section (anticipated this), so had a local shop help with the project by deleting the downtube brackets from the delete kit and fabbing up a plate to tie it into the SD tube. Turned out much cleaner and still fully rigid.

Then installed the remnants of a 110 Safety Devices padding kit (whoa expensive, but managed to fully protect two Rovers); installed the armrests that showed up; fitted a fire extinguisher (with two 3" pads left over - nice and snug); resurrected the old Rubbermaid box that I kept on the floor of my '95 NAS SW - the lid's fully 'openable' and the reality is, I doubt I'll even have to riders in the other bench; and riveted in the tailgate rubber pad.

A bit of a repeat-post from the "other forum," but figured I'd share over here... I went back and forth on whether to go with the Safety Devices roll cage that resembles the NAS - or - the classic canvas look. I really wanted a khaki top with van sides, as my Series 'glass' always deteriorated the quickest, so opted for the latter, but without an ability to run a cross-bar to carry my canoe or guideboat. For a long time, I've debated whether to fiddle with the windscreen and said screw it: give it a try.

A friend helped me execute the design in stainless. It's really simple: a couple of nutserts in the frame (which, in theory, could be filled if it didn't turn out well); two square tubes on a bracket, with a rod across the inside bottom to serve as both a stop and to allow rain to drain out; then a round tube on a bracket. Add a 52" Thule square bar, and the full arsenal of (long) accessories opens up. Very pleased with the results, as the bar removes with two pins. Just need to wait for the 3/16" stainless detent pins to show up (in place of the securing bolts) for ease of on/off - oh, and find some paddle time!

I bought parts which I don’t have time to install and tried to install the fuel gauge sender but I have too much fuel (gauge does not work right) so that has to wait until I run down some more diesel. I don’t know what crack head decided to weld the crossmember before installing it, but I got a deal on scratch and dent so I am happy.
