A bit of a repeat-post from the "other forum," but figured I'd share over here... I went back and forth on whether to go with the Safety Devices roll cage that resembles the NAS - or - the classic canvas look. I really wanted a khaki top with van sides, as my Series 'glass' always deteriorated the quickest, so opted for the latter, but without an ability to run a cross-bar to carry my canoe or guideboat. For a long time, I've debated whether to fiddle with the windscreen and said screw it: give it a try.
A friend helped me execute the design in stainless. It's really simple: a couple of nutserts in the frame (which, in theory, could be filled if it didn't turn out well); two square tubes on a bracket, with a rod across the inside bottom to serve as both a stop and to allow rain to drain out; then a round tube on a bracket. Add a 52" Thule square bar, and the full arsenal of (long) accessories opens up. Very pleased with the results, as the bar removes with two pins. Just need to wait for the 3/16" stainless detent pins to show up (in place of the securing bolts) for ease of on/off - oh, and find some paddle time!
