What turbo ?After a very unwelcome engine rebuild (man I never ever wanted to do that: https://nas-row.com/index.php?threads/what-have-you-done-to-your-defender-today.4/post-63531), I'm back on the road. As a maiden run, we headed for the hills with a heavy ass trailer. Still working on tuning the turbo wastegate, but so far very happy with the rebuild.

American flag day right there!
That is good to know, as I have one too! I don’t use mine too often yet as I usually use the winter to upgrade a few items— do you use yours pretty often? Can you do it in situ, or do you have to remove the entire unit from the truck?Rebuilt my Webasto Thermotop C furnace. The stainless mess grill gets full of carbon deposits and runs then stops. Its a simple fix but you have to cut the top of the burner off to get at the screen. Too about an hour or so to complete. I actually had a spare burner so it made it really simple.
It works great once again! Warm coolant and activates the interior blower when temp is met. View attachment 31027View attachment 31028View attachment 31029View attachment 31030View attachment 31031View attachment 31032View attachment 31033View attachment 31034View attachment 31035
Doing it in situ is virtually impossible… you have to empty the coolant, besides its easier to just clean everything with it out. Oddly intermittent short term use is what causes the carbon build up. They are designed to be turned on and used for hours at a time. Mine lasted 24 years🤷♂️. I use mine all winter as it is my daily driver 24/7 . Alas though it is all short trips and intermittent use… 🤨That is good to know, as I have one too! Also, if you don’t mind, could you post the part number for the filter?
Hey Jimmy hope all is well! Did this ever happen? I haven’t been able to find if you ever posted the results of this. My truck is under the knife and I think my radiator is in a pretty sad state. Would be a shame to bolt the same old thing back on.I spoke to Ron and decided that I’ll send him a radiator to copy. This will have the factory oil cooler and an electric fan. Once it’s done I’ll share the part number for anyone interested
Thanks SO much! I don’t have a clog yet, but sure it’s inevitable…Doing it in situ is virtually impossible… you have to empty the coolant, besides its easier to just clean everything with it out. You’ll have to cut the top off the burner and re-attach, either with welding or drill and tap with machine screws as I did.
Good luck

Very curious how this goes. The mechanical pump is such a ticking time bomb.I designed an electric vacuum pump bracket for my 300tdi, had it cut and bent, bolted it up. I included some holes/slots for wiring and the vacuum line. I did a few iterations between steel and aluminum, settled on the steel version.
It allows you to use the CVR VP665 pump. I wanted something that would allow me fast and extremely easy replacement if it came to it, so the pump is oriented the best way for removing it, wiring it, and plumbing the vacuum line.

Same. 🤷 I'm finished with it and it's already set up and in the truck again. I tried to design it for tidiness and durability, and looks pretty factory. It'll just be whether it holds up long-term. Even if the CVR pump needs replaced eventually I can do it in 5-10 minutes without disturbing a gasketed surface. It is a win/win for my use case.Very curious how this goes. Not yet. My Defender is in a storage unit in Las Vegas, so I haven’t been messing with it. I’m bringing it back to the east coast in November, so I’ll get working on that.Hey Jimmy hope all is well!
