Speaker placement has always been an issue in Defenders, especially in the rear. With a flimsy panel already there, at best it could fit a 5" speaker, but isn't actually strong enough to hold the driver, and the space is too shallow.
It's truly the best spot for speakers in the rear, up out of the way of cargo, and a direct broadcast to the front of the truck. Creating boxes would be big, bulky, heavy and secure mounting is a complicated challenge as well.
The solution to the issue is my replacement panel. Made from Baltic Birch plywood, (more stable and moisture resistant then MDF) it's a direct replacement for the old tattered rear panel. Mounting is simple, and very secure, it can easily hold a pair of 6 1/2" speakers (that is 6 lbs. by the way). The panel also increases the speaker mounting depth by almost 3" which gives ample room for the driver, and increases the enclosure volume.
Designed to fit 90's and 110's with an aluminum roof, installation is simple, and is universal to allow adjustment to fit with the Landrovers "build tolerance" . The panel comes with a complete set of installation instructions, and all the required hardware to secure in place.
There are now 2 versions of the panel available. "Pre-Puma" and "Puma". For those with the later body style, the interior trim has different contours, and a panel is now available to fit.
Panels are also now available without upholstery. If you are re-upholstering your Defender, I can provide a bare panel so you can have it covered in the same material as the rest of your interior. Or, if you prefer, I can provide the panel upholstered in automotive leather, matching the grey Defender interior, or any color you like.
Prices are as follows for both "Pre-Puma" and "Puma"
Upholstered panel - $525
Prices now INCLUDE shipping to the con. US.
