Upper rear speaker panel for 110's and 90's

Speaker placement has always been an issue in Defenders, especially in the rear. With a flimsy panel already there, at best it could fit a 5" speaker, but isn't actually strong enough to hold the driver, and the space is too shallow.

It's truly the best spot for speakers in the rear, up out of the way of cargo, and a direct broadcast to the front of the truck. Creating boxes would be big, bulky, heavy and secure mounting is a complicated challenge as well.

The solution to the issue is my replacement panel. Made from Baltic Birch plywood, (more stable and moisture resistant then MDF) it's a direct replacement for the old tattered rear panel. Mounting is simple, and very secure, it can easily hold a pair of 6 1/2" speakers (that is 6 lbs. by the way). The panel also increases the speaker mounting depth by almost 3" which gives ample room for the driver, and increases the enclosure volume.

Designed to fit 90's and 110's with an aluminum roof, installation is simple, and is universal to allow adjustment to fit with the Landrovers "build tolerance" . The panel comes with a complete set of installation instructions, and all the required hardware to secure in place.

There are now 2 versions of the panel available. "Pre-Puma" and "Puma". For those with the later body style, the interior trim has different contours, and a panel is now available to fit.

Panels are also now available without upholstery. If you are re-upholstering your Defender, I can provide a bare panel so you can have it covered in the same material as the rest of your interior. Or, if you prefer, I can provide the panel upholstered in automotive leather, matching the grey Defender interior, or any color you like.

Prices are as follows for both "Pre-Puma" and "Puma"

Upholstered panel - $525

Prices now INCLUDE shipping to the con. US.

You probably should sAy shipping conus. Shipping internationally will get expensive.

Thanks Scott, glad to hear you are happy with the panel! What speakers did you end up mounting in the panel?

I went with JL Audio C2-650X Evolution. I am very happy with them.

The installation is fairly easy. You did a great job with the instructions. It takes a little time to match up the speaker spacer pieces and set up the screw holes for the speakers, but the bar fit in my truck nicely. It does take two people to install. One to hold it in place and the other to screw it in, but that was quick. It took longer to run the speaker wires. Again, I am very happy with it and was worth the cost.

All the summer group run of panels have shipped, and from the sounds of things, most have been installed. :)

If you happen to have one of these, I would love to see some pictures posted. Let me know which speakers you went with, and what your impressions of the sound is.

I'm going to be away until mid month, and probably looking to see if there is enough interest for another group buy for mid September.

I'll try to post a photo or two of the component speaker version I have been working on once I am back.

Also, I may be looking at doing more of the custom under rear seat 8" sub. It's a custom box specifically for fitting under a rear Puma seat, anchors to the floor in stock mounting holes.

Days are getting shorter, so I think by September I'll be back spending more time in the shop.

Looking to put a group order together for upper rear speaker panels for September production.

$525 including con. US delivery. Puma and pre-Puma versions.

Had local truck purchase and install a rear panel a few weeks back. At the same time they also re-upholstered the headliner with the Genuine material I have available. So nice to see a clean contoured headliner like it was from the factory!

The speaker panel fits in nicely and doesn't't look out of place, and best of all it sounds good.

Looking for a few more people for a fall group buy. I have lots of headliner material available, and would entertain bundling together a speaker panel, and a headliner material set if anyone is interested in doing both at once.

One person from the five of the December group buy has had to back out due to unforeseen circumstances.

4 panels from the group run shipped out before Christmas, and I now have one upholstered, non Puma panel ready to ship for someone (the group buy pricing applies, $525 including con US shipping).

If anyone is interested in purchasing, please PM me.
