I did not realize the pin should be greased. Mine was dry and clean when I had it out a while back.
Were you able to set the timing with a dial gauge? I’m wondering what the difference is between this pump and the 300Tdi version as I was under the impression that the timing can not be set with just the pin.

No dial gauge. Just followed the remove & refit instructions in the Land Rover Defender Workshop Manual 1993/1995 for 200tdi timing. Basically, it is just making sure it all lines up at the same time - Crankshaft TDC mark lines up with the cover plate web while the number one cylinder is closed, timing pin goes into the narrower notch on the flywheel & timing pin can slide easily & fully into the IP.
The test drive will determine if it's "running right". Actually sounds normal though. I'm sure there will be fine tuning. I'm on a steep learning curve right now.
