Steering Wheel is rotated slightly counter clockwise

Unsure if the thread title is accurate -- while I await a parts and workshop manuals for my new top me '97 NAS 90:

My steering wheel is roughly at the 1:00 position when I am driving straight. I assume the PO put the wheel on wrong and it just needs to be taken off and rotated so the steering wheel is at 12:00 when the wheels are set to go straight down the road. I have never taken a modern steering wheel apart... Anyone have a parts diagram they can post, or any advice? The Defender drives down the road straight, but it seems weird that the steering wheel is slightly "off kilter".

You adjust the front drag link to set the steering wheel position. Do NOT take the steering wheel off.

Nothing modern about it. As John says the correct fix is adjust the drag link. Wheel is on tapered splines and can be fun to get off.

You can find steering wheel “pullers” for Rovers on eBay Uk. But I’d just do the drag link correction.

It is important NOT to move the steering wheel (unless some PO moved it to the wrong place). You want the steering box in its central position when driving straight. This is to prevent the box from running out of travel and to allow the minimum amount of free play.

I agree with checking the box arm position, and adjusting the drag link but if its fine i would pull the steering wheel and just fix it. you will need a steering wheel puller from the autoparts store and some 3.5-4" M5 bolts and hardened washers to get it off. The wheel nut is 24mm if i remember correctly, and the crash pad just pulls off - Straight.. don't twist it.

If its a new truck you want to go ahead and get a copy of the RAVE manual http://www.landroverresource.com/rave.zip

puller thingie ... https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-45000-...+wheel+puller&qid=1569954815&s=gateway&sr=8-5

You shouldn't need a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel from a 97. A bunch of videos on youtube that should give you step by step instructions.

i made my steering wheel crooked when i changed out the power steering box, but then i corrected when i changed the joints on the steering shaft.

I found it necessary on one. Simple to make one up with a piece of angle in ten minutes.

PO said his mechanic replaced a switch in the column, but would get more info for me. Will wait on that info before messing with it and will post up the info. Thanks for all of the ideas so far.

Assuming that is the case, I can mark and move the steering wheel back to "center".

Well, I did buy this one knowing it would be a mechanical adventure.

And, I did download the RAVE stuff, thanks for that info Lynchie!

Assuming the wheel were centered before the mechanic tampered with it...
Remove the cover and nut, wack the steering wheel with a rubber mallet. lift it off.
And position it where you think it should be drive it on a straight flat road and position it one or more times if needed.
Secure the nut and replace the cover.
Done.
