More Bumper Problems...

Cutting wheel to the steering guard is how I would proceed. Better than cutting the recovery points off the bumper.

I tried. But even if I could get it to fit into place, there is no room behind to get the bolts in. I would have to cut the bumper.

It's insane that I can't get a simple bumper to work! I'm kind of surprised that RN would sell a bumper that is this odd. I'm sure there are not a lot of people buying it, but I wonder how many people are wondering what to do about that gap below the frame.

I finally got some movement from Rovers North on this. It's been slow because I just can't get to a phone, or don't have cell coverage most of the time during work hours. So that's part of it. But the guy I talked to today understood the problem when I described it to him over the phone, then he took a look at my photos, and he is going to pull one of these bumpers from their inventory and actually test it against a standard bumper, and test fit it to a frame.

I should hear more on Monday. Which... I think might actually be my last day of work for the summer break. Meaning that even if they can't get a hold of me, I will be able to talk to them on Tuesday!

OK, I got the call from Rovers North. They tested it against other frames and other bumpers and they measure 7/16th of an inch too wide. They even called a few other customers to see what they had come across, confirming what my issue was. I was the only one to whine about it! LOL!

So they recommend just using spacers. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but with the two bolts through the frame at the back, plus the four main bolts, I also can't figure how it could be a "bad" thing.

I asked about the steering guard issue, and he did say that the steering guard needs to be modified. I tried it, but there is still not enough clearance to get the skid plate mounted. Some other bracket will need to be welded up, and a new hole drilled in my skid plate to make it work.

However, they did come through for me in the end! Took a while, but actually ended up lining up exactly with when I got the truck officially back on the road anyway. So I'm off to the DMV!

Maybe RN should provide a bag full of washers to include with each bumper, since they obviously can't be installed as is. What a pain.
