Lights on front affect cooling?

So foot to the floor, pinned for a while, 70mph max, and what will EGT get up to? Sounds like you are under fueled but ill heed to Uncle D or Red90. If that is the case, sweet, because you are about to gain some free power. Truck should be able to pull up to about 80ish. With 265's and stock 5th gear my truck pulled pretty good up top once it was running correctly. Not so much anymore with taller 5th and tires but it will still get there.

Also make sure your throttle is opening all the way with your foot to the floor...

Perhaps not.

Find a long steep hill that you can accelerate slowly with your foot to the floor in 4th or 5th. Watch boost and EGT from 2000 to 3000 rpm. Let us know what you get for numbers.

Will do, thanks guys, you're the best. Can't believe how helpful everyone is to complete strangers! I guess it's the bond of loving these things. Takes a special kind of patience only a Land Rover can instill:D

Check your throttle cable. I was chasing an issue for a while in regards to it. The little plastic thumb screw to adjust it kept coming lose after a few miles of driving from vibration or whatever. It took me a while to realize what was happening because I knew I had it adjusted correctly initially so I dismissed that as a problem.

I ended up having to using a simple zip tie solution to resolve it. It holds the plastic body tighter to the metal bracket. I can still spin it if i want to adjust, just requires more force. It has been a few thousand miles since doing this and it has remained tight and not needed any adjustment.

New Tstat arrived today. Install took about 5 mins and gasket looked great. Took it for a nice drive on the highway and unfortunately... no success. Engine still barely reaches 110. Here's a pic after the 20 min drive

Hmm OK feel a bit guilty but at least we know it isn't the t-stat.

Some thoughts:

Is the truck so under fueled that it can't get the engine hot? Is that even possible? Maybe the truck is getting warm but the gauge is reading inaccurate?

Where is the gauge grounded?

The temp gauge in particular is very sensitive to ground. I ended up having to ground my gauge independently on the fire wall AND run a little ground strap from cylinder head to firewall.

What temp probe do you have? VDO? Part number 323-422

Are you using the original temp sender wire or a new one? What gauge wire?

Is there teflon tape on the probe? I also had that as problem because I didn't read the instructions.

First I worry something is not setup right in the cooling system. With these custom creations, you just never know what people have done. Maybe a picture of the engine bay, just to be sure.

My next advice would be to verify that the gauge is reading properly. All that is takes to read low is a bad connection in the sensor wiring or the engine ground. Pick up an IR temperature gun. They are pretty cheap. And compare the temperature near the sender to the gauge.

Adam Santa I was thinking th sane thing. Add one more. Pull the wire off the sensor. Ground it direct to the block. It should get pegged into the red zone

No guilt at all! I can't thank everyone enough for the help! I'm glad we figured out its not the thermostat. all the gauges are VDO. Funny enough, my fuel gauge always ready empty. Was fine when I bought it, then it began to work intermittently going on and off repeatedly and now nothing. Gauge itself isn't broken ( took it out and when I give it power the needle goes to full). Is it possible the two gauges share a ground? I've tried tracing the wiring from the VDO gauges and they seem to just disappear behind the dash binnacle and into the firewall

Here are some engine pics. Please excuse the exposed hella wiring harness on the drivers side wheel well

Sounds like the normal nightmare of crappy previous owner wiring. Every truck I?ve ever bought required 40 hours of rewiring.

An additional thought, when touching the block after a long drive it doesn't feel too hot (could leave my hand on it without uncomfortability, certainly not as hot as the chevy 350 crate motor in my other car that runs at about 180-190. The air coming out of the heat blower is always lukewarm. When touching the top of the coolant hose above the tstat it feels much hotter
