Article above says 3 new models are in the works, none are a more basic version of the Gren.
Shows you what I know.
I didn’t read the article, but 3 models could easily be an electric version and seven seater versions of the normal and electric versions. Or it could be two door LWB variations a la van style, single cab pickup, and two door wagon type models.

A previous article stated that beyond the Grenadier they would offer an upscale version (not to be called Grenadier) plus the Magna electric skateboard “90” version. The Quartermaster has already been released, so that’s four.

The models they're working on go in a diff direction than a stripped Gren. Looks like Lucky Joe called it - this is the base model.
Disappointing insofar as Ineos stray from the classic Defender ethic that gave them good reason to be.

249 miles is just enough to get me to where I would want to camp for the first night.... When will SOMEONE PLEASE make a HYBRID that can tow and off road?????
I’m not interested in donating load capacity toward hybrid/EV battery banks.

Jeep has the Wrangler 4xe. Plug in hybrid capability and the 2.0 Turbo 4 as your hybrid package. Regular range is the same I think @ 350+ miles and the hybrid gets you something like 20-25 miles of all electric driving. Charge time is really quick (2 hours) if you buy their system for your home.

It also is around $50k starting for that model. About an extra $15k above the base model.

There is one of those at a local bank branch - I used to see the guy run a line from his office to it even morning. I just don't understand what is so great about 20-25 miles on all electric drive? Added complexity and battery weight for 20 miles?

Sort of, on the charge. I don't know of a manufacturer yet that says quick charging is anything but harmful and shouldn't be done as a typical mode of charging to preserve battery life and integrity. So they tell you what is possible, similar to what Tesla says, but in the end they say try not to do that...

Honestly, if I could run a 20-mile trail on battery alone, that wouldn't be all that bad.

Given the volume of sales, not to mention resale values, Jeep has pretty well nailed it in the US.

As to limited range, I can tell you that my wife loves her Q5 hybrid because she commutes 1.2 miles each way to work - meaning, she's all electric throughout the work week and is not limited on the weekend for longer trips thanks to the ICE.

Another benefit it being able to warm up the car in the garage in winter without risk of asphyxiation. Not bad when it's -24 degrees out. I'm sure the inverse rings true for Phoenix-type climates.

Most trips are short and if the car is charged between times the gas engine will only kick in on less frequent longer trips. It's not that 20 of every 350 miles is electric as a practical matter.
Overall real life mpg is what sells hybrids.
Video was faked, but I did like how the blonde called it.

New Land Cruiser slaps New Defender around. Something like 300hp in a four cylinder turbo hybrid, traditional frame, smaller overall size, and a base model that looks like it will be easy to modify. Only problem is it will be way too popular. It starts at $55-$60k.

But ... boy is it ugly. I don't see its popularity as a detriment - let the CB hordes take it.
