I need to replace my steering box. The leaks are getting bag enough where it is a steady drip when parked out of the input seal and the sector shaft seal. I've never replaced any seals in a steering box and I'm not ruling out that as an option. In the past I've had really bad luck with replacement steering boxes. I replaced 8 Genuine steering boxes on the same Discovery 2 at the dealership years ago before we bought one from Atlantic British. I've seen Merdian ones fail after a few weeks, as well as ones from auto parts stores such as Advanced Auto Parts. Looking at Atlantic British and Rovers North, the steering boxes have gotten really expensive $1200+. I don't want to buy one and have to keep replacing it for that amount of money. I'd also rather not spend that much on a steering box in general. I'm curious what everyone else's experiences are with aftermarket or Genuine steering boxes.
I'd also love to hear if anyone has had any luck replacing the seals. I suspect there is wear in the box which allows the shafts to move. Also worth noting that my truck spent a lot of time in the Northeast, so corrosion is a consideration when attempting to repair the existing box.
