Timing 200 Tdi injection pump

Yes the pump itself. I see tutorials of setting injection pump timing with a dial indicator.

You could check that it's set to the stock 1.54mm lift if you have the correct tools. 1.6mm is a common target when advancing the timing.

It's a special tool you'd have to buy just to check it, so I'd ask them what they set it to, and if that checks out I'd run it. Or did you already install the pump and it's not running well?

No I haven’t removed the old pump yet. Might send it to blue ridge diesel to have them rebuild it.

This gets you better accuracy than just using dots on pulleys, or locking in timing gear with tool.

I use this method and have been pleased with results.

Make sure you time the engine to TDC. Lock the pulley into the timing case with a special tool, then remove the pump. Install pump at TDC with pin through pulley, and refit pulley and pipes. It wasn't terribly difficult. Probably some fellah with an accent on youtube could show you how it's done for visual. KGH is probably more experienced if he has one of those fancy dial gauges. I did mine and had no trouble with it using a rebuilt pump I bought from somewhere online, seems like LR direct.
