Do I need to set the injection pump timing if I’m installing a replacement pump?
Yes the pump itself. I see tutorials of setting injection pump timing with a dial indicator. If you're referring to the pump itself, they come pre-timed.

If it’s rebuilt by a reputable shop then it’s probably not necessary to check? You could check that it's set to the stock 1.54mm lift if you have the correct tools. 1.6mm is a common target when advancing the timing.
No I haven’t removed the old pump yet. Might send it to blue ridge diesel to have them rebuild it.It's a special tool you'd have to buy just to check it, so I'd ask them what they set it to, and if that checks out I'd run it. Or did you already install the pump and it's not running well?
