It boggles my mind you went to a LR dealership at all. X2 on go to Ford. No way in hell any LR dealer here has ever seen much less worked on Td4's

I work on them at Land Rover Manhattan. The diagnostic tool and workshop manual is the same for the US and ROW. Most recent one was a 2.4 that had a defective Britpart fuel filter, as well as a defective replacement Britpart filter. A new Genuine filter was in stock in the Pennsylvania warehouse and we had it the next day.

I wouldn't take one to a LR dealer (or any shop for that matter) expecting same day service since they aren't common trucks here.

This is really not the right forum. You would need to go to a UK centric forum.

It will need to be hooked up to a computer so that you can first see if all the sensors are working correctly.

Which can be done at the Land Rover dealership with SDD. Although if the check engine light isn't on, "the sensors" are probably reading correctly. I would lean towards an actual mechanical problem.

I service a large utility company here in Chicago, next time I am in their shop, Ill look to see if their Transit 250 are diesel, if they also smoke on cold days. I would think that those engines will have full blow DEF systems on them, not sure if that would make a difference, as i don't see that I mine.

Good news, it's not white smoke, so it isn't coolant, sounds like fuel.

A good investment would be a Nanocom, you could plug it in and check to see if there are any codes present. It's also handy for changing POE settings, like alarm operation, interior light settings etc.

If it's just on start up, I would think of looking into glow plugs, glow plug timer and relay.

Seriously look into a Nanocom though, well worth the investment.

I'll also add - in Chicago this time of year, my 200Tdi makes a lot of smoke when I do a cold startup (I believe its from unburned fuel due to the injector tips being so cold at startup). When I start it up later in the day after its reached operating temperature at some point I don't have the problem anymore. Does it smoke all the time? Or just on initial startup?

I have the same with my TD5. When I am in Whistler or the interior, and temperatures are below freezing I get a lot more smoke at start up for about 20-30 seconds.

Looks like a must have, has a lot a option, would you know where i could get a owners manual, there are some lights on the dash that i don't know what they mean when on, i think one is for the alarm, but its just a red light.

Only when engine is cold, once i drive it for 5 good mins, it will go away..
