Sad part is that the Jaguar side has some holes in it too. My mother-in-law has a Jaguar XF wagon. It's a great looking car and drives well. I know I'm old but when I think Jag I think a classy looking sedan/estate which the XF and the other sedans fits. But why is Jag making SUV's? A family member had one and it seemed like every other generic bubble shape SUV. They got rid of it within a couple of years. I'm not sure if it is McGovern's call but the dilution on both side of JLR is hurting it.
Winnah. I drove one of those Jag SUVs. Now having 550hp makes for a pretty exciting ride even if you don't have the balls to open it up on that first drive. But lord, it looks like my wifes xc60/our old CRV, etc....

Just in case you were worried that it's not a "real" Land Rover.
He got an error code in the first ten miles from the dealer, so this is the follow up:

I saw one for the first time. It was truly fucking garbage in person. I'm not knocking anyone for buying any car, but man, what a huge disappointment. To be fair, however, I've hated every LR since the LR4.

Ford just bitch-slapped the fat kid and took his milk money.

Ford will sell like hot cakes. But that’s also one of the reasons I won’t want one.
I totally argue that Land Rover has missed the market on the new Defender. Even if it is good, they simply made it look wrong.

One thing that has me thinking Ford Bronco over another Land Rover product is the cost of service.

I dropped our LR4 off to the local dealer yesterday as the brake light is on. I know having the dealer service it we are paying a premium but it is convenient and not much more than the local independent.

The front brakes (rotor and pads) are $1,200. And Land Rover brakes do not last long (maybe 30k).

Rear seat belt plastic covers broke off and the covers do not have their own part number. To fix I would need to buy new seat belts at $600 a piece.

Finally, I asked to have a key fob reprogrammed (it was from a 2013 L405 RR that was stolen). The service writer said it would work but it would be a 1 in 4 chance that we could damage the main computer if we tried to reprogram it. New key fob is $450 and $160 to program. Is the computer architecture that crappy that a key program will roast the whole system?

I'm guessing the new Defender will be just as expensive to keep fixed as they get older.

Brakes last just 30k on an LR4?

Better tell my brother. His diesel LR4 is at 28k, and is currently sitting in a LR dealer in Switzerland due to recurring reduced power failure. They had to keep pulling over on the Autobahn to "reboot/restart" the car which caused it to reset the fault for a few more miles...... He jokingly said he's refinancing his house......

If I remember correctly my brother in laws LR4 would eat brakes in that amount. I know the full size RR we had needed brakes very often. I had a dispute with the service writer about it. They said that Land Rovers are heavy vehicles and that is the reason why. I mentioned our F250 (that I had just done brakes on) was heavier and needed brakes much less frequently and it was a third of the cost. They didn't know what to say after that.

Sorry your brother is dealing with a major issue like that at 28k miles.

I’ve told him to save his cash, just give them his first born.

8k-15k miles is pretty normal for brakes to wear out on a modern Land Rover in a metropolitan area. Same with control arm bushings on an LR4.

Don, ur on to something dude. Our LR4 fronts lasted only 24k from factory. I bought cheep-ass rotors off Rock Auto and Ceramic pads from local parts store. We just had our car go through VA safety inspection this week and I was holding my breath bc we’re at about 68k. The pads passed so I imagine they must have at least 4/32nds left. I’m not buying LR’s pads ever again.
Our rear belt things broke too. I was able to superglue them together. Ha! a $60k vehicle under manufacturer’s warranty held together with super glue. That’s why I’ll never even pause to think about a new Defender.

so they replaced the accelerator pedal assembly and for now, all is well. Ok so he’s $1300 poorer...

I'm not against spending money on brakes but give me more than 20-30k miles for them! 8-15k like Jimmy said in a metro area makes it a double kick in the nuts. Imagine spending $13,000 on brakes for the first 100k miles?!

The seatbelt thing adds to the frustration - I am sure it is a known thing to brake as looking at the design it is shitty. But instead of making a bunch of covers for $50 which they would still make money. They put you over with a $600 fee.

I'm sure Ford and Jeep are not without their faults but the carry costs cannot be anywhere close to that of a modern Land Rover.

At 28k miles he has to replace an accelerator pedal assembly. Yikes - that is bad on all levels.
