I just got mine mounted and balanced. I called around to a few places and Big O was the cheapest. When I got there they wouldn't do it, after we unloaded all of the tires. They said they were too old. They wouldn't even let me sign a waiver saying I knew what was going on and I'd use them off road only, etc.

The second place charged more, but they didn't have a problem with the date codes.

Most took a little more weight than I'm used to, but this vehicle doesn't really go highway speeds, so I'm not worried right now. If they shake I'll have them try again.

No intent to be a Debbie Downer but is there any concern about age with tires in general and these specifically? I'm only asking because I'm drooling over yours and I may get a set (if there are any left). My last set lasted 8 years or so. They were ready for replacement due to age (hardening), not milage. I was no way near the milage wear but they started cracking from UV exposure (in Portland, can you believe it!). So, I'm genuinely curious. Thoughts? Facts? Thanks!

No, XZL's have the half life of a cockroach. Actually, when all the cockroaches are dead XZL's will be good to go.

I'm not worried about it. My spare for the 7.50R16 set of tires has a date code of 96. Now that might bother me a little, if it weren't just a spare. I'll be parked inside 99% of the time, and I cannot get over about 55mph anyway, so hopefully I'll survive a blowout. (I've heard these have steel cords in the side walls too, I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is, I doubt a blowout will happen, they'd probably just start leaking from dry rot (which these don't show any signs of, by the way. They look as good as the brand new tires that they are)

We use XZLs on our tactical dump trucks at work. We had a string of blowouts about 6mos ago. 8 tires across 5 trucks in 1 day. It had nothing to do with mileage or age. I tracked down the lot numbers and they all came from the same wholesaler. Turns out they were a company in the south that stored the tires outside in the sun for years. If they have been stored properly, they will last for a long, long time. We have XZLs on some of the trucks that were made in the late 90s. Still going strong.

Michelins have always been really bad about cracking, but I've never seen a blowout as a result. Some crack so badly you can almost see the air inside. I wouldn't be afraid.

I wish i had taken a pic of my very tired XZL's before they were replaced yesterday. Some of the cracks down the middle were almost 3/8 wide and you could see the metal ribbing. One had a big ole wore down nail in it. I guess there's a reason the military used em.

Got mine last week. Plan to install them soon. In the meantime the are in storage.
Thank Chris for setting this up

Had anyone else mounted a set on their truck yet?

My 94 NAS 90 has the 7.5's on it. They just seem a tad small. From what I've read, it seems the consensus is the 8.25s will be too much for a truck running LR HD springs but not a true 2" lift.

I've enjoyed the michelins, but was hoping the next size up would work.

I've gotten into a new habit of regularly spraying my tires with 303 UV Protectant. It's an experiment to see if I can get a little more milage out of them since generally they start to degrade from UV exposure (cracks, dryness) before they are actually worn out.

You all need to post up pics. I'm very curious about this size, and especially since I'm starting a new investment account now, so I'll be able to buy a new set next summer!

Mine are still sitting - I'm just about to start a few big projects on the truck and mounting these is part of it.

These tires are great! Ben was rocking the 7.5s and Peter was the only one not with xzls but has come to the light. Chris's 110 has a perfect stance with theses. I think they are alittle big on the 90. I am swapping them over to a 110 and put 255 85s back on the 90.
