How do you do a disc brake conversion and retain drum brake halfshafts? (besides having them cut down...)

That's a new one to me.

That's a new one to me.

Check my conversion thread . Tldr you use early disc front hubs and discs with rear braxkets.

Difference between disc and drum length shafts is due to the hub spacing. Late front discs and late rear disc hubs have narrow spacing . Early front disc and drum hubs have wide spacibg.

Wide spacing = drum length longer shafts
Narrow spacing = disc length shorter shafts

The only two reasons to keep the drum length shafts if you are doing a disc conversion.

One : you can use readily available taken off parts to save money
Two: the wide bearing spacing is slightly more hd

Can you still run the same rotors that, say, you can run on a late front axle? I have some DBA vented and slotted front rotors sitting in a box.

Yes as long.as you are running vented calipers . Calipers and rotors are interchangeable on any axle as long as they are done together.

It gives you way too much rear bias though so you need to restrict the rear pressure a lot with a bias valve. There is nothing to be gained over normal rear discs.

That being said most rear disc conversions use rear calipers not fronts. So then you have to use rear discs .

Running front calipers in the rear is great if you are constantly towing or running very heavily loaded, otherwise sitck with rear calipers in the rear.

Interesting. I wonder if he is getting them made somewhere different. My shafts were a peened finish.
