Interest in Salisbury Drum length hd half shaft group buy

Trying to gauge interest in a group buy for Ashcroft drum length Salisbury hd half shaft axles.

They and Kam are no longer Manufacturing these shafts. I've been in communication with Ashcroft and they're willing to do a run. If we can get say 5 to 10 people we can get the price down a little bit lower then the current retail. Shipping would be direct from Ashcroft.

If you are considering doing a disc brake swap on your sals and want to keep your stock length axles AKA do it the easy way. And eventually want heavy-duty axles this would be the time to act. Or if you just want to put in lockers and keep your drum brakes you're also going to need these.

Post here if you are interested. Unknown on pricing at this time but it would be cheaper than the current retail of the disc length axles. Turnaround time would be 2 to 3 months from today.

YES!!!!!

The KAM shafts are total bullshit. I bought a set from L8 and they weren't long enough to get a circlip on. Allllllmost long enough but not quite. I went around and around with L8, who supposedly went around and around with KAM and they basically said this is how they are supposed to be. KAM's customer service blows.

My KAMs are still sitting here. I wanted to return them to L8 but lost the tube packaging for one of them and felt bad about sending them back.

I would love to get a set of Ashcrofts. I'm in.

You got it , counted.

On the kam, cam was bought by frog Island 4 x 4 who owns all makes and terrafirma. I also called them in UK and asked about the new replacement shafts. Long story short they were manufactured all incorrectly and that's why they told you they were supposed to fit but didn't.

Lets get some more people in here

Those Kam shafts you have at home will only fit the disc brake axle trucks. Or drum brake trucks that have been converted to use the narrow bearing hubs and stub axles when moving to discs

Who said they were manufactured incorrectly? That's incredibly shitty of them if that's true.

For what it's worth, L8 immediately offered to take them back. It was me that just felt bad about sticking them with it. It's KAM's fault, not L8.

Well Kam doesn't exist anymore. The new axles are going to be sold under the Raptor name manufactured by all makes /terrafirma/ frog island4 x 4

The new axles were supposed to be the length of the old drum axles so they gave you used interchangeably with the disc brake axles by just tucking them further into the diff like the old Kam design. When they chose the length to manufacture them they chose the shorter length by accident instead of the longer length. So the Assumption even at terrafirma/allmakes is that they would work but after many emails and phone calls with them over the last month we know that they will not.

Lovely. Thanks for the beta on that. Maybe I can make mine into yard art or cuff links or something.

Hmm. The 110 I picked up recently was swapped with rover parts. I will have to dive in and see. Thanks.

If I could get a set for my series Salisbury, I'd be in.

Suspect it wouldn't be that difficult to chop a set shorter...assuming they go two piece and have a separate flange.

Put me on your list, I'm interested in a set. And I haven't even bothered with a disk brake conversion yet.

Not to hijack the thread but after rebuilding my drums with fresh spreaders and new shoes and springs, I see no reason to "upgrade" to discs. The drums work just fine.

I agree, but don't like the additional maintenance burden of periodic adjustments.

None , but cheaper than retail at least.

current retail is 390 USD approx

I'm in.:)

I do have a question though.........are the drum Sal axles all the same with reference to spline count, length, diameter, etc? My 110 is an '83 with rear drum brakes. I know my rig originally came with selectable front hubs and part time transfer case. At some time someone installed a regular 110 front axle. I'm assuming the Sal axle was stock, but I don't know for sure.
