I have heard that the 3-4 years of first imports to the USA were iffy with the computer systems. Mine is a 1998. Anything after say 2008 seems to get good reviews, but there's something about that 1990s MB vibe on the dash that I like.Sounds about right. My brother had a 2002 (I think first year of MBUSA G class) and not always, but often when he would lower the drivers window the passenger seat would recline all the way. Various other electrical gremlins too. Shame because the pre MBUSA Europa's were / are pretty reliable.
Another impression from today.
Three cars ahead of me on the freeway, there was a typical contractor/trash hauler truck. A piece of stucco fell off, broke into pieces, and one piece, the size of a half-finger, flew into the Grenadier's windshield. It exploded into a blob about 2" in diameter - I thought the windshield was done in, a week into Grenadier's life. It was the hardest windshield hit I have ever experienced in my life - all my past and current vehicles' windshields cracked from much lighter hits.
After a wash and two sweeps of the wipers - there's a tiny pit, that was difficult to find when I came to work and looked from outside.
yesIs this your daily driver?
I'd love shorter turning radius, and I don't care for engine sound (inside or outside). A LWB Classic's still my ideal vehicle from most POV, except for age and maintenance.Anything you miss that maybe another vehicle might have?
Looks like I am going to pass on my Grenadier. It is in and ready for pick up. The challenges for the vehicle at the pricepoint just do not make sense for a daily driver. Noise, rear view, trailer wiring issue which does not have a solution, the dealer being over an hour away.
I will say for the money, I did not see the value. They look cool, but when I did a cost benefit analysis, I just could not justify it. This would have been my daily driver. I am a little nervous about the economy also, but there were just too many red flags for me for the dealer not being ready to support if there is a problem.Anything else on your radar?
I passed in favor of a Rivian and further improvements to my '86 110 for some of the same reasons - but, primarily the result of a significant reduction of my commute.
