He wanted to put his finger print on this model...His dissertation of retro design or even anything that links it to the 70 years past is mind numbing. I wonder what Ford thinks of that with the Bronco coming up? Or Jeep - Or BMW - Or Porsche - Or Merc - or Rolls - or Jag - Or Bentley - oh never mind what do they know as compared to this "designer".
I have a degree in Architecture - as a student I quickly realized there are basic things in design that are wrong to anyone - i.e. not enough windows or a ceiling height to low, how you move from one space to another etc. But there are a whole lot of things that if your passionate enough and if you regurgitate enough BS at the wall people will say "oh gee I see that now - I guess your right". This douche-bag is the queen BS'er.
Im not looking for a retro reproduction - But I would like to see something that ties it back to the history of the brand - other than the green oval...
He is basically saying - "look those traditionalist (i.e. customers) who bought into the whole camel trophy and the Tread Anywhere motto - they are never going to buy another Land Rover so fuck them. Even through they are the ones who paid for the lights to be on and they have uber brand loyalty - screw them I have spend my life designing and I now know best. All they know are winch points, how to pack bearings and push the engineering to the extremes true neanderthals in ever sense of the knuckle dragging world of it. I am a god damn designer I take blank sheets of paper and make cars out of them - let me see them do that! Oh and I really don't care because this Defender model is SOOOO yesterday - I have moved on to fucking up the Range Rovers....and I don't care if you like those either."
RIP Mr. Wilkes.
