Is a recover something that you would try yourself, and what kind of adhesive do you recommend with this material?

I think it all depends on your skill set, and how comfortable you are taking on something for the first time.I can tell you that it's easier if you have a second set of hands to help. You'll need a hairdryer, as the material stetted with heat which is helpful.

I asked my upholsterer and he says any good contact adhesive will work fine.

Some have had it professionally done. If you remove the panels yourself, use corse sandpaper to remove any remains foam and adhesive, then take it in to have it recovered, you are going to save a good deal of money.

I have sold plenty of material to board members, so if anyone has any DIY experience, please chime in.

I saw a mag article with a DIY headliner install. They used a material similar to oem, including the foam backing. The material sold by CDN38 doesn't have foam backing, which is the part of the headliner that fails by disintegrating as it ages. I wouldn't use foam backed anything.
The biscuit can be repaired/reinforced where it is broken/weak.
Installation can be DIY, but the radiuses at the front corners are challenging, even for some upholsterers. One thing is for sure, glue the material to the biscuit in a warm room or warm weather. The material doesn't stretch easily. I've had different 2 shops ruin a section of material trying.
I've had a pickup and a 130 stationwagon done. Had to repair biscuit beforehand.
Shipping a complete headliner isn't cheap.

To date, over 200 Defender owners in the US and Canada have been able to re-cover their headliners to original with the material I provide. The material is no longer manufactured and I bought the remaining few rolls the manufacturer had in inventory about a year ago and I’m on the final roll. I often get people messaging me asking if I still have inventory available, so I post with availability.

No problem! I feel a little guilty posting about it at times, thinking if anyone is looking they will just reply to the post. But I often get people messaging me asking if I am still selling the headliner material, or if I am still making speaker panels. I suppose some people on forums are just looking at the most recent activity and don't always go chasing down the rabbit hole!

Unfortunately I'm out. It was discontinued years ago, but I was drawing from a supply the original manufacturer had on hand. They are now out of stock.

I have been searching to see if I can find some anywhere. It's like looking for that NAS barn find.... it's gotta exist somewhere... hopefully.
