Bring a Trailer Defender Auction Criticism

Who pays almost a hundred large for this? It’s unethical to be pushing these Turkish trucks with sub-Maaco refurb jobs but it’s monumentally stupid to buy one. I remain dumbfounded and refuse to believe that this 20-something huckster has tapped into a vein of market idiocy that better builders haven’t.

Crimes:
- Incomplete repaint, the inside of the bulkhead is still white, bottom of sills still white, wheels still white on the inside
- Old seals, the alpine window seals have white paint on them from being masked
- Beginnings of rust through on the rear chassis rails by crossmember
- Rubberized undercoating chassis restoration (hasn’t been run enough to even burn off the exhaust)
- Torn out holes on rear tie-down
- Drag link ball joint has torn bush and needs replacing
- Wrong badge stuck on grill doesn’t even cover holes
- Didnt replace the radiator hose after it got cut by the tensioner puller, just did a butt-joint and called it good
- Paint where it shouldn’t be in the latches, on door seals, roof side seals, windshield seal, thresholds, door checks, strikers, door hinge buffets, on the lug nuts, etc
- Rear shoulder belts MIA
- No door seals on the bottoms of the doors (the removed and discarded the old-style ones that were mounted to the sill)
- Whose arm would go on that armrest?
- Lassa tires?
That price would buy the real McCoy in Europe.

$97,000??!! Thats not even funny anymore. Did anyone notice the massive slab of bondo on the front wing? The flat tire, or the cracking paint on the wheel arch?

That interior should be in the Defender hall of shame. It's just that bad.

While you are correct about it being cobbled together with leftover parts, having seen this truck in person I'd still say it surpasses most of the BaT trash. Originally built with spare parts for a fun custom length 110(has 90" rear overhang), turned into a bit too nice of a build to wheel.

I thought I was missing something just seeing JimC's post about this bobtail. It has a somewhat odd combination of parts but overall it looks really clean. The 4.0 liter will probably be easier to find someone that would work on it vs a tdi and the auto will open more potential buyers to it.

At first I thought it was goofy looking with cut off rear but the more I looked at the pictures the more I like it. Definitely unique but could be a good buy with the galvanized frame, good paint, roll cage with soft top and a lot of new parts.

Turns out the bobtail was built by someone reliable but it ended up with some Mickey Mouse stuff after the project changed hands. I just hope someone buys it and wheels it Like was originally intended.

I had come back here to post the grey truck mentioned above:

Its literally the worst thing he’s offered. I can’t even catalogue all the affronts to craftsmanship. He‘s literally swindling his customers.

My favorite is the paint on the seat belts (#143). Nylon degrades from exposure to solvents; people have died as a result when it compromised safety harnesses. 'wouldn't trust that belt one bit.

I love the roast comment on the rear Defender badge, which is actually a front Defender badge, applied at an angle.

Has wagonmaster actually turned on his alpine friend? Is this criticism or is he just bending to the vibe of the comments (which are surprisingly candid in this auction). I‘m glad he’s a stickler for genuine Kahn parts, he is evidently the sort of man who demands only the best. It is however laughable to even pretend that these could be anything but knock-off pieces.

I can't even begin to imagine a world where people care if a Kahn item is genuine, sweet lord.

I think it’s worth looking just at the door. Below is a picture of an imperfect original door. There are several contours in the metal that are bondo’ed over or missing on the crap grey truck. The screw heads shouldn’t be embedded in flaking bondo. Why is the grey door wider at the bottom? It makes me wonder if it is a very low quality fiberglass door. I wish this guy would just go back to selling Japanese import crap like his not-yet-25 year old R34 Skyline.

If he’s not an actual criminal, his douchebaggery is criminal. Just a young scam artist out running his game. If he keeps up this kind of shenaniganizing he gonna get his shit pushed in before too long.

I can easily make a list of faults on this 110... Normally I would not do this negativaty on other sellers trucks but this guy is really pushing it and taking money from people who could have bought a well built truck for the same amount or even less.

Lipstick on a pig is douchebaggery 2.0 but he isn't even able to apply the lipstick on a good way..

what about the sills.. should be 2 pieces bolted together, not looking like one piece. so probably one big layer of bondo..

What about front fenders, upper line is all gone due to bondo..

What about the C post panels, where you can't even see the rivets anymore

What about the big ass rivets they used in the rear panels

And I could go on and on :censored:

I know, part of the reason I even bother with Internet forums is that someone can watch and learn from my mistakes. The exploitation really gets my goat.

Lipstick on a pig is one thing, this truck is krylon on a sphincter.

Wait, WTF. Part of the body is missing. The second row seat is too wide and too far back, so the normal c-pillar structure at the front of the tub is missing. Worse yet, the seat belts are mounted to the top rail (?) instead of the reinforced bracket on the c-pillar? What is the retractor mounted to? The trim panel? The correct location has been wallpapered over with fake alcantara. The front seatbelts are mounted wrong also, the retractors are mounted on the b-pillar instead of the rear floor location. The stock mechanisms are designed to only function when mounted in the correct orientation so what the f has been used here?

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a seller who is out to scam you out of your money is also not concerned about your life or the safety of your passengers. Just waiting for this guy’s house of cards to collapse in on itself.
