Im working on a no start issue on a non EGR, non EDC, single wire to solenoid, 300tdi. It stalled while driving and has low coolant. I don't believe it to be the head gasket causing the no start, no run issue -I could be wrong. As I turn the engine over I get plenty of white smoke from the exhaust and it sounds as if it wants to fire or as if it is partially firing but no start. I have read that it could also be some issue with air in the fuel lines. I have changed 6, 200tid head gaskets. None of which wouldn't start at the time of me changing them. I cracked the bleed screw at the top of the fuel filter and primed the lift pump. There were a few bubbles so, I understand I could have air in the lines. My 200tdi will self prime. Stands to reason that a 300tdi would as well. So Im looking for some help. As I understand it, the injection pump has to be in 1 of 4 positions to use the lift pump to prime the lines to the injectors. Can anyone verify this and or tell me how to identify at what position the crank should be in order to accomplish this?
