Tool Deals Thread

I look every day. Nothing is quite in the sweet spot of what I'm looking for and the more I look at the Dragonfire unit above, i really hate the drawer layout. Possibly I was spoiled by the deep top drawer of the Snap On box that made so much sense for having sockets stored vertically.

i see the dragonfire advertised on Instagram, that enough to keep me from buying it

I just can’t see spending that much money on a non-snap on 72in when the US general 72in is probably about the same quality and is $1200 (and less with coupon). I hear the 72in is really, really nice (as is the 56in). If I did not have to go to an HF to get one, I probably would have ordered one by now (plus there is the pesky sloped floor issue I need to deal with in the castle garage).

Edit: and you can scrape off the US General logo. ;-)

Fondles only the finest German made tools, drives Porsches and Defenders, lives in a castle... buys a HF toolbox.

Harbor freight boxes are great for the price. I tried to get the dealership to get those for everyone (JLR now requires black boxes) but they got Lista (I think) instead. They are total garbage and the drawer heights are all wrong. My only complaint with a harbor freight box is that they aren’t very deep.

As I’ve said before in this thread, get the best or get the cheapest.

If I needed another box, I would get this.

Who said I actually live in the castle? I live in the hovel as those who have visited know. :) porsches? Drive defenders? I drive a 4 banger 5 speed 4x4 Tacoma with negative options. :) The nice stuff including the castle itself is all hoarding.

This all makes perfect sense to anyone who knows me.

I do have a snap on box for the main set of tools at the hovel ($1500 off Craigslist for 56in top and bottom). I just need a box for the castle, because this is the current set up (I added a second craftsman chest on the workbench that I dragged up from the basement).

Full tour of castle box set up (I got a few more tools since then). You can see why I want a real box. I can move this bench to a corner and mount the bench grinder on it.

My current hoarding plan is to get a full set of Stahlwille sockets in SAE and Metric, regular and deep, 6 point and 12, and universals, in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 as well as round out my wrench sets and screwdriver set.

All the Stahl .... it was either that or Hazet (I may do Hazet at some point in the future too).

Send me a message to follow! It’s 400 euro to get a Stahlwille box to the US. And those are spendy and small to begin with. :( Also, thank you for reminding me I had to order some more Stahlwille. I picked up the 1/4in SAE and Metric set that was on the promo. I think the point of diminishing returns tool box is a 56in or 72in US general or used snap-on. At least that’s where I am at. I love the one @jymmiejamz posted, but I need time to go search for and get a used snap on.

Another one I am looking at is master force. It’s sold by menards which is a Midwest chain of Home Depot type stores I think. They have a 72in x 24in. 3000lbs weight of tools. Etc. costs a bit more than HF (they go on sale for $1400, currently $1700), but if you are not near a menards ... they don’t seem to ship. It does weigh about 170lbs less than the HF. Not an option for me because I have never seen a menards (seems like a good company).

Apparently it’s the same company (same boxes I think) that sells montezuma toolboxes:

I have not figured it out entirely, but apparently tractor supply sells them too (costs more than menards).

I have this one: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-H...Steel-Top-and-Dual-Locks-H72MWC15DL/305980805

Not quite as heavily built as the one you posted but I like the stainless top and for the price it seems to work well enough for this shade tree mechanic.

I looked into the HD ones. Seem nice, but seems like HF is bigger and is better for the same price (but you don’t get the top). I don’t know. I am planning on going to the HF in Delaware on sat to check them out (I have to RURR some stuff down there). I also have to figure out some spacers to get the castors up an inch so it sits level with the floor in the castle (no, it’s not caving in, the sloped it to an 8in drain in the center of the garage!)

Ha. Those gold icon ratchets are all the rage on YouTube. I hear it’s actually a good ratchet, but for $60 I will get the new quick release Hazet (when they come to the discount places) as I much prefer soft grip.

BTW, this is the first real test of the non-quick release Hazet I have seen. Place your bets as to whether a 1/2in ratchet can do 1000nm (730 plus ft/lbs).

The quick release are rated at only 850mn for the 1/2in.

As long as I’ve been turning wrenches, I think the only time I use normal length 1/2” drive ratchet is drain plugs. Everything else gets the impact or 24” Snap On flex head ratchet. I do have standard 1/2” Bahco and Craftsman ratchets. I prefer the Craftsman, but only because it doesn’t have one of those shitty soft grip handles that fall apart with any regular use. Both are junk.
