There are a lot of reasons not to use a rover V8. When they're running good they're as fine as any other. When they're not the repair cost is above your typical V8. The 90/110/130 platform comes with different chassis mounts dependent upon engine. So swapping a 200tdi for a 4.0 isn't as easy as you assume. The wiring modifications for a 4.0 swap isn't something that many here would understand or undertake. That's why so many choose someone like Robert to perform conversions of any type. The GM engines are reliable, cheap and parts are plentiful at any auto parts stores. I've run a 4.3 V6, have a LS1 in my IIA/90 project and a LT1 waiting to go into my 110 unless I opt to put a LR 4.6 V8 into it. I've owned over 30 LR's, some series, a 110, a few RRC, a P38, a LR4 and a crap load of D1/D2. I've had good luck with most of my V8's but not all. At present, I have two D2 sitting with wiped camshafts. One had a blown headgasket. Authenticity is fine if that's what makes you happy. I wouldn't own a non-turbo diesel 4 banger for any price and would be remiss to say I'd feel any happier with a 200tdi/300tdi (I've driven plenty). I know after over 4 decades of building vehicles (26 of those include LR's) that this conversion is a no-brainer for simplicity, cost, reliability and maintenance.
