US based parts suppliers

So since urban land cruisers and Safari HP have gotten out of the parts business, or in Urban's case went belly up, are there any other decent parts suppliers in NA?

I have

Rovah Farm

Rovers North (shipping is expensive)

Defenders Northwest

Atlantic British

and then for more upgraded speciality bits

Series Defender

Pangolin is great for the Series II and I stuff.
I've been using Rovahfarm a lot for the Defender.
Rovers North really knows their stuff, they usually have what you need, and maybe the prices are something you can deal with if you are counting the good customer service, etc...
Lucky8 came through for me on the Safety Devices roll cage.
Series Defender is where you get the specialty items and the Carling Switches.
Defenders Northwest is great! Although difficult to get ahold of if you just want parts. I love that he works on the trucks with the owner. I would love to be closer to them so that I could actually utilize his services in that way.

Some suppliers listed are better than others when it comes to shipping speed. I have experienced several empty promises from a few suppliers listed above. If I don't talk directly to one of these suppliers on the phone I won't order from them.
Specifically I'll call Zack at Rovers North, Brian at Defenders NW or Eric at AB if I need specific help with a part number I can't find and order it thru them
LRDirect.com is the fastest shipper by far and they always have what I need in stock. Their down side is they have zero tech support. If you don't have a part number you aren't going to order from them. Also a return to the U.K. would be a PITA.
YMMV and you may have luck with outfits that I haven't had luck with but if you develop a good working relationship with any vendor keep supporting them instead of chasing a .20 discount for a crap part that takes a month to receive.

I have used Rover North with great success for many years dating back to the mid 90's. They almost always have the part you need but they are never the lowest price and the shipping is always on the high side. I needed a freeze plug last year and because I couldn't find the size referenced anyplace I ordered from RN. They delivered quickly but charged $10 for a small soft package and I paid full retail. I have ordered many small parts lately from the UK and the shipping has always been quick and cheap. The price for the part has also been lower in most cases. I always try to shop US first then if I can get it lots cheaper I go overseas. I have also used a couple of eBay sellers with good results all based in the UK.

Shipping anything anymore is just unpredictable and expensive.

I shipped a small box (about 3" x 3" x 7" weighing 1lb to Michigan from Philadelphia. - $17

Shipped another box (about 7" x 7" x 11") weighing 25lbs to Miami from Philadelphia - $20

And that is BEFORE any S&H charges that might be added depending on what I ship.

UPS likes to charge for volume AND weight. Sometimes it sucks and sometimes it really sucks.

Years ago freight companies added a fuel surcharge to invoices because of increased fuel costs. Now that the fuel costs are back down to the level that they were before the surcharge they are still charging the surcharge. Good for them when the surcharge could pay for the entire load of a tractor trailer and you only have 2 skids on the truck.

But comparing shipping costs and time between domestic and europe can almost be the same or quicker.

I do try to spread my spending around though.

Safari probably has one of the largest inventories of Defender parts in the country.

One of the NorCal LR Club members runs Roverware.us as a side business via his connections in the U.K., and carries mostly bearmach parts. (IMO better quality than some britparts and allmakes).
Only down side with side business is that some times parts take longer to deliver. But, if I'm not in a rush, I usually order from them.

In addition to the previously-mentioned sources, I've also been finding parts on eBay. Atlantic British (atlanticbritish), Lucky 8 (lrparts), Safari (safarihp), and other suppliers sell through the site, and I can often quickly compare prices and shipping charges by simply searching for a specific part name or number. I've also done business with LRNJ (lrnj_autoparts), Miami British (monte-rovers), and UKAR (ukar-auto).

I generally prefer to call Rovers North and actually talk to someone when it's time to order parts, however ;)

I've used most of the guys mentioned here. One thought-they all buyvfrom the limited number of sources in the U.K.

I will add that one of the best parts buying experiences I've had is when I ordered direct from YRM in the UK.

I figured out what I needed, then sent them an email. They got back to me within 24 hours and started answering my questions right away. We traded emails over the next day or two before I made my final order.

I did actual payments with PayPal, and I got the parts in the mail a week later. Even with shipping, it was half the price of the same parts from Rover's North, and instead of painted, the parts were galvanized.

So if you need anything that YRM sells, I'd highly recommend going direct to them.

I actually built my new seat box with all parts purchased from them. Fun project that "should" be completed with the week. I almost bought the deeper under seat storage option but decided against it for whatever reason.

The time difference can suck a little bit, but if you can email them at the right time you can nail everything down in a matter of hours.

Just a word of caution with Paypal, if you use Paypal to do the conversion to GBP they charge a lot more than most credit cards ( I think they were 3.5%). You can chose to have your bank do the conversion, then use a card without a foreign transaction fee and not pay anything extra. I still haven't received anything from customs though.

Other than that, their prices are amazing and the quality of the parts is great. Shipping was a week, but that falls on Fedex messing up delivery on my end.

Ordered 4 Terrafirma HD Drive Flanges from LRDirect at about 6pm (Eastern) Monday afternoon. DHL just delivered them to my door today. WITH shipping charges, they came in $3 cheaper than the average retail price of these flanges stateside, shipping not included.

I'm all for buying from US companies, but it's hard to argue with the choices, pricing and shipping from LR Direct. There are times when you'll want to use a Genuine part and you'll pay for it, but it's nice to have the option of Bearmach, Britpart and All Makes at a range of prices. The shipping is extremely reasonable and being in NY, I'm amazed that most items arrive within two days. The downside is definitely the minimal customer service and the costly return process.

Sometimes the cost is so much cheaper at LR Direct that I'm willing to eat the cost, or I could always sell it for almost a net zero.

The way their parts pages are set up to display that spread of options/prices is really nice. AB and RN show links on their pages to the related proline or non-genuine option, not the same as having 4 extra tiers/choices.
