How do you pour into bottles with that? That’s my big issue. And draining the oil filter. It’s under $20 so whatever. The big guy I will use for coolant etc.

I would love a big one with a barrel and telescoping neck for a lift (my mechanic gave me a one post lift, but it is still there since snow ... not sure what that says about our relationship that he gave me a lift) but since I don’t have the lift let and I have to take the oil back, I need something to easily get it back into bottles so I can dump in my mechanic’s recycling tank.
That’s a great question. I have always used that style at dealerships where we have large coolant caddies (like the oil drains on wheels). A five gallon bucket would probably be the best way at home.

Ya, see that’s why I liked these. Pouring from a round cheapo plastic pan into a 5 quart mobil 1 bottle is hard even with a funnel. The spout is non-existent or small and sucks and the plastic is cheap and floppy. And pouring into the recycling tank requires them to be in a bottle like a 5 quart oil jug. I have one like the larger one (Walmart or prime special) that has a lid and such, which, in theory, I can take to recycle without transferring into bottles, but the oil does not go into the hole in the center of the lid quick enough with the rover giant oil pan drain bolt and it does not seal well like bottles.

I could get a five gallon bucket with a pour spout nozzle hose thing. That is a good idea. I wonder if there are Hazet branded buckets? :) A full five gallon bucket just ends up being heavy though. What I have been doing is having my mechanic do oil changes. It gives us time to chat and catch up (I know the owner and the tech really well now so I sit on the snap on stool while they work) and he does state inspection at the same time (along with other stuff I don’t feel like doing on the ground like the rear A-frame balljoint). But unfortunately, that only works if the vehicle is driveable unless I want to fork out for a tow.

I started using a Home Depot bucket recently. I need to build a little thing that hangs on the side and holds the oil filter for draining. I really like the bucket because I'm at home, not in a shop, and I need a secure and clean way to transport the oil to the auto parts store for recycling. It holds a few 300Tdi changes or one Ram 2500 6.7L change.

@jymmiejamz <3 I feel the love.

I had DHL move all my international deliveries to Friday because they did not get on a truck today. Among them should be two sets of Stahlwille wrenches and a Hazet 600LG/13 (the long version of that wrench). I hope they are as nice as I am told.

Here is some more Hazet love and a three way shot of Gedore, Knipex, and Irwin Visegrip locking pliers. The Gedore is the nicest with the extended handle, but I have not used them yet (I have another Knipex coming, two more Gedore ones, and the 12in Hazet on back order). Knipex, Hazet, and Stahlwille all come from the same plant in Germany apparently. Irwin is Chinese made, Gedore is Austrian made.

And yes, I did spend $27 on Hazet plastic tote, but it’s 10x as nice as the $12 cheapo ones (the handle is aluminium).

If anyone has $1000 burning a hole in their pocket and wants some deals on Hazet stuff, I compiled a kit on .de. that stays under the import duty deposit.

I also did some saved for later if you want to do a second order (or get a bigger wrench set — you could save some money with 600N and the extra long 600LG which I got are a bit more). The one fault with the metal tool box kit is it has the non-hp ratchet. So I added the 8813hp to the saved for later (nice to have a spare 3/8th anyway). The locking pliers are the same as Knipex and I would recommend those or the Gedore. I also tossed in a set of the India made 6 point Gedore wrenches because I like them. I bought a 10mm and 13mm and they may be my new favorites. You can get another metal box for $57 euro, or $90 from toolID plus $7.50 shipping. The one thing I like which is not on there because it’s out of stock is the magnetic nut cup. ToolID has them cheap ($7.50 shipping) or $24 on prime. I ordered the Hazet box without tools, but I may get one with tools next .de order. I am now building out a set for the castle which I plan to make almost all Hazet.

Review of crescent 14 piece 3/4in drive metric set. ($50). This sells elsewhere for $150

It’s great. Ratchet seems nice (24 tooth). Breaker bar, extensions, and 12 point sockets. I thought it would be Chinese crap, but it’s made in Taiwan. The case it comes in is nicer than the one pictured on Amazon.

If you need 3/4in socket set, or even if you don’t, this is the one to get for a value play on quality tools.

Ok so Stahlwille is really nice. I actually like the ratchet better than Hazet, but it does not feel as strong. Everything Stahlwille makes seems thinner than Gedore or Hazet or Wera. I doubt I will ever break it, but I don’t plan to get a 1/2in or 3/4 set where that could be issue. The backdrag on the ratchet is better than anything I have ever used. It’s really nice.

Also, they put a flyer in with it. That travel kit ... OMG.

I like that shorty soft-handled ratchet. Snap-on doesn't make a short, soft-handled 3/8" ratchet but my dealer is taking a 1/4" model and swapping 3/8" guts into it for me.

So this used to be my absolute favorite ratchet that I ever had. Unfortunately it got totally worn out and I replaced it twice through Sears over the years. now unfortunately all of the replacements are made in China and the quality is significantly less.

I really like that the flex head uses detents instead of friction. I also like the long non-curved handle. any suggestions on a replacement because mine is finally giving
up the ghost

Link to .de for the Stahlwille ratchets. 80 tooth, quick release.

33 euro for 1/4, 45 for 3/8, 51 for 1/2

I have the 1/2 on order (just cause), I have another .de order in my cart (I run them up to the export duty limit which ends up being about a grand) with the 1/4in. There are some 1/4 sets, but they are in the 130 euro range and I need more 1/4 in sockets like a hole in my head even though Stahlwille sockets are really nice

Regarding the flex heads, Hazet (90 tooth, the HiPer aka HP aka high performance) Hazet not come out with the new flex head. Stahlwille (80 tooth) has come out with a flex head in their new ratchets, but it’s not on prime or .de (just from hand tools from Germany for $175). So, much, want ....

Misterworker has it for 73 euro so I ordered it from there (87 euro shipped) HFG has it for $103 on its website.
I was going to wait for the Hazet (who am I kidding, I will buy both, probably in 3/8 and 1/2 — I have the 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 1/2 long Hazet now or on order and also have the 1/2 Stahlwille on order — no long version available ... yet and I have the Gedore 1/2 60 tooth and the full set of Wera zyclops flex heads). They have different theories, Stahlwille uses a locking quick release for the head which is a neat idea. Hazet is floppy style in the old style, but I bet that changes. Gedore has one with a knob to lock it, but it’s round head.

Forgot the pic of the Stahlwille 452 qr n. Ends up being $100, not $30 like the craftsman, but it has the detents with the advantage of the button to lock at each detent

517 qr is the 1/2in flexy and 416 qr is the 1/4 flexy

Mister worker has 5/7/10% discounts based on how much you buy and the ratchets are listed at 45% off sticker (so 60, 73, 80 euro).

Covid has sort of put a damper on European tool sales in Europe so now is the time to buy I think.

You guys mentioned used oil transport. I have found that by far the best container to use for bringing to recycle is a 20L Wedco NATO gerry can. For all the same reasons it is the absolute best fuel canister, it is also the best oil canister. I am paranoid about a 5 gallon bucket (with lid) falling over and spilling in the car; not so with the NATO can.

I have one dedicated to this purpose - and as Chris says, at 20L it holds basically one complete Defender fluid change.

The parts store drain pan I have has a spout neck which fits right into the can mouth.

Many don't realized their municipal waste disposal service offers free curbside oil recycling. I believe that qualifies as a tool deal.

Speaking of great oil related tools - has anyone found a 5 gallon bucket pump that doesnt leak?

...or a large fluid "syringe" for gear oil and such that doesn't leak? I have never changed gear oil without getting covered in the stuff.

That’s a great video. If I could find an SAE Whitworth Stahlwille set like that I would buy it, just cause. :) That channel is really funny. Actually all these videos (mostly outside the US) where people save bent/Swiss cheese frames and bulkheads are fascinating to me.

The Hazet 600LG set showed up. They say “heavy duty” on them and they are very long. Definitely not cheap, but I got like 40% off sticker through global. I will say DHL is not like prime delivery. It’s signature required (or waive any claim for loss or damage), they sometimes don’t show up when they say they will, and reschedule delivery they take as a mere suggestion and show up when they want apparently. Supposedly a couple more are showing up “by 8pm” but being that they were here once and did not drop them off, it does not make much sense.
