Thoughts on RHD vehicles?

I drove a RHD Transit in right-side-driving country for a year and a half. It took a few days to get used to shift the gears with my left hand, and it required flipping the left-side mirror forward so I could pass on two-lanes.
Other than that... it was okay. It was awesome to park parallel and get out to the curb.

I’ve owned a RHD 110 for almost ten years. My wife, daughter and two boys all picked it up easily. I don’t have a center cubby so getting food in a drive thru or parking garage isn’t really a big problem. Parallel parking is nice when you get out right in the curb.

Not really a fan. Mainly because if I'm spending a ton of money, might as well get a properly setup truck. I've driven them and everytime I have to re-learn my tire placement. Even on the road.

I would consider a RHD import if I was doing a rebuild/heavy work and would be swapping it to LHD. That is about the only way I would consider it.

Be very cautious with any seller trying to persuade you. Don't dive in until you've had a chance to drive one around for a day. A conversion is not cheap and you may be stuck with the vehicle for a while trying to resell it.

Bet people do a double take when they don't see anyone on the left hand side....

Having grown up driving RHD cars in England, I have no problem with being on the other side of the road. Drove RHD in Europe as well. You just learn to adapt.

Have a rhd LR110 and a RHD series 3. No regrets. Makes them more unique, and nothing you can’t get used to and overcome.

Love my RHD. No regrets and no major concerns. I did spend 5 years driving in Ireland so very comfortable at RHD. Plus cuts down on my drive through unhealthy habits!

At first RHD seems awkward because you are use to the other half of the vehicle being on the other side of you so when you get tired you have a tendency to drift into the other lane.
After you get over the awkwardness and get use-to-it, it's no longer is a concern.

Never understood the logic of doing lhd molested conversion when there’s plenty of original factory lhd’s from dry climates. Still seems silly to me and I’ve not seen many that we’re really done very well.

I love RHD in RHD countries. It takes a few minutes at most to learn to shift with your left hand etc, but to me it’s just needlessly wrong and the novelty is not entertaining.

One thought not previously mentioned (and I love mine). Don't forget to change your headlights. And has anyone changed the fog/reverse light?

I have a RHD 110 that I converted to soft top with external roll cage. Right now I am in process of removing floors and getting ready for respray and possible engine swap to Chevy 250 (19j isn’t cutting it). I asked my kids and wife if I should convert over to LHD and they all said no way ! They love having the dog drive shotgun and see people’s reaction at lights. This is my weekend truck so I have zero issues with driving RHD. Good luck !

You are in what is arguably the most active area in the USA for Land Rover. If you are in the market, and you spread the word around, then more than likely you will be finding one pretty quick.
I would go over to Dean's shop (independent) in Rockville to see what's going on there. Also Sarek in Richmond, and Doug Crowther in Appomattox, VA. There are a few of us that have been gathering for Happy Hour on the third Thursday, but that's kinda been abandoned during the pandemic lock-down.

Drive-throughs during the pandemic suck because it's not just food, almost everything has a drive through right now... otherwise I think the road/driving aspects of RHD in a LHD country are great. Most of these trucks being so slow, being on the right side I feel offers better visibility. Line of sight over left shoulder from right seat is way better in my opinion. Stepping out onto curbs is convenient and safe as well.

But LHD is just normal, you'd never realize the difference or see anything negative about LHD until you've driven RHD. That's how I was. The drive through situation during the pandemic is a huge negative of RHD though. In my view as someone who has been essential, hasn't been able to work from home, and has daily driven a RHD during this whole mess.

ha! I didn't even think of the drivethrus! Eating while driving will be a new adventure too!

Eating while driving a stick shift makes it really interesting. Steering with your leg while shifting and drinking a soda/water is a challenge. With no one else around obviously.
