Site gone down?

The NAS-ROW name originated from a forum members suggestion. Chris and I listen to our members and appreciate your input.
Internt searches look for key words imbedded in the web page along with its content. The more that is posted the more hits. If you search "defender muffler bearing" it will show up irregardless of the forum name. Also posing here and there brings them more exposure and hurts us in the long run. Key phrases here makes our search presence stronger.
Thank you all again and keep posting. We are at almost 5000 posts and 500 registered members. Quite an accomplishment for such a short period of time and it's all because of you.

I don't think the forum name matters as much as the content. The #1 Subaru forum is called NASIOC and I have to google it to see what that even means. My other board is DiscoWeb and my family thinks I'm really into disco dancing and really, how many new LR4 owners know what a "disco" is?

What matters is the posts we write here and the breadth of subjects that we cover. We've been slowly advancing on those fronts and it will only get better as we stick around. The less folks double-post to both sites, the stronger it gets here.

I know you guys want the mobile apps. I do, too. It's super frustrating to spend weeks waiting on another company with atrocious customer service for what is probably a ten-second database query that their developer will eventually run.

I don't wish database problems on anybody, including the other site. I hope they get it fixed. Meanwhile, we'll keep doing our thing here.

What you see here on N-R is what there will always be: owners who care, good servers that are regularly maintained, and a fervent non-commercial attitude.

Thanks, everybody, for making this site happen.

Hell I didn't know what a "D90" was until I moved back to the states, and I had already owned my 110 for 2 years!

I'm not sure many new members are searching "defender muffler bearing".

I'm a little late to the party, but glad I found you guys over here.
Didn't realize this was all going on until someone sent me a D90 pm with a link to a for sale ad over here that was scrambled by their site.

Welcome buddy and we hope you stay! Your screen name has always been one of my favorite and I'm glad to see it here.
I'm not sure why they block "NAS-ROW" but apparently they have their reasons.

you guy's really gotta drop this shit, it makes the board look very childish and petty. If you don't like 90Source, don't go there, but the constant bantering takes away from your credibility and makes it look like you're desperate to obtain it...

Also am willing to kick in a donation to help off-set costs (just like over on DWEB)

Why even go there? Everything you need is right here.
Out of curiosity why are guys still going over there?

Why Not? I still don't get why there was a divorce. Over pop-up ads? I honestly never seem to see them. Plus the app is helpful.

Love the new site. Thanks Chris and Dave. I am sure a significant amount of personal coin when into this so let us know when and where to send cash to help fund the community site. No ads! privacy! sweet.

I'm still trying to figure out the divorce that lead to CROC and Old North State, and it's been years. Kinda the same thing. It's amazing what an Iraq deployment will due to your concept of time-space.

Historical data, more active sales (parts mostly), some ongoing deals with people still only on that site. Room for both and happy so far with this site and everyone here.

I believe it came down to Vertical Scope.

random forum post from 2008 said:
recently 2 forums that i help operate were bought by verticalscope. once they accuired the forum, they completely spammed the site with google ads, gave all site sponsors a 300% increase in their rates, and even began charging long time members to be able to view the areas that were once free for them to see.

if you truly care about the community that you have spent years working on, you will not sell out to VS. they are only there for the money and dont care about any part of their member base besides their wallet. the sites that i am talking about are www.gixxer.com and www.gsxr.com they are cornering the market on all motorcycle forums and are even going as far as sending threatening letters to any offspring sites that want to remain free. they are threatening legal action because they now "own" copyright on everything as small as similar colors beign used. example, the suxuki GSX-R has a distinct logo on the side of the bike. www.gixxer.com has that R in its site logo. now any other gsxr related site who displays the same suzuki logo has received a threatening letter from ther lawyer to remove the site and or logo.

please dont sell out to VS, no matter how much they offer you to do so.

on a side note, one of my members did throw this spoof site together poking fun at them

Vertical Scope is actually interesting to research on the internet. If you read from former employees a lot of them still think highly of the company despite quitting for various reasons. The bottom line is they are a company with a goal to make a profit. That profit comes off users knowledge in the form of plastering the site with ads and claiming ownership of the users content because it's on Vertical Scope's forum.

A big issue with them is that they "OWN" everything that is posted/typed/printed on the sites they own. It can't be reproduced elsewhere or you run the risk of them sending their lawyers your way via cease and desist orders to the competing forums. When they buy your forum you sign a non-compete agreement with a set time frame where you cannot create another forum to replace the one you just hocked to them. The more you read about them the more you'll find that their forum managers generally start out as enthusiasts but then get replaced/fired/quit and are replaced with new guys who know nothing about the communities, forum content, or managing a forum at all.

Chris and Dave,

Maybe we should encourage old timers(I am still a middle aged) to write up some basic stuff like how to repack wheel bearings, and what lift can I put on my fill-in-the -blank?

I am one of those who never ever saw a pop up ad on The Other Site because I guess I was grandfathered by join date.

I'm glad to roll in here this morning and see so many new posts since last night. I think the site is growing.

I think it's plain to see, when the big corporate takes over, the quality goes for ^%$#!, Pretty much like most things.

I think there is a perception that this is a new place and folks from the other sites are not welcome. I am hoping this place becomes a new house for everyone. Hell i recognize most names from multiple places. This place has the ability to organize content and once folks migrate over we will all benefit from the wealth of knowledge we all bring to the table.

I just sent a PM so someone on the 'Other Site' and my mention of NAS-ROW.com was censored from my message. LOL!

I've done that , too.
I've mentioned NAS-Row to others in pm's.
Just don't link it and I dont think it will censor...
I'm sure Chris knows how these 'puter things work.

i was just thinking about that. What about having a second URL, something completely different, like www.pies.com. But it actually forwards to NAS-Row. There would be nothing for them to censor.
