Sealing LT230 bottom sump plate

Dumping the oil on a LT77 and LT230 today. What is suggested for the 230's sump plate? I have a new crappy paper gasket, should I use liquid gasket or even right stuff on both sides of it and seal the bolt threads? Thanks.

I use the paper gasket basted on both sides with black right stuff. ARP thread sealant on the bolts and back of washers.

One of the few places I think a paper gasket is required as the cover plate has a raised bead on the sealing surface.

Yeah that makes no sense.. they are open to the oil gallery as stated above.. That being said I seal the bolts with non hardening thread sealant which works fine, or use teflon tape on them. . makes getting it off easier.
I use HondaBond on the sump plate itself.

Are your cases leaking any after these fixes. Mine drips a half cup a year. It’s not pretty under my truck near the front from motor oil. I’m assuming it’s rear of valley gasket. Not looking forward to rebuilding the engine some day. I’ll need many plastic scrapers.

You sure ? The bolt holes are open to the oil gallery, they'd why you need sealant on them

If I remember correctly, the last one I saw cracked was cracked near the fill plug. I don't think all of the bolt holes are open into the oil gallery ( I was thinking only the bottom three were). Pic from Google.

Job went well. Lots of thread sealer all around. Cleanest the 230 sump plate will ever be. Only the lower left and lower center are open, the rest are closed.

Trans was a different story. LT77. The britpart filter was too big, even after sanding it down. Disappointed I had to reuse the old one. I think it's the least of my problems.

Are circlips optional? 4th gear is no bueno.

Yeah, this truck has been a victim of covid and time spent on another vehicle. Have about 15 miles on it since it came in to port last year. All fluid now swapped in preparation for it to move. Definitely a bummer.

Hi folks. Cool thread. Any thoughts on that large sump cover with the cooling fins that afs another .5 quarts to the capacity without taking away any clearance in the Lt230?

I have one on my truck now as I optioned it when I got the transfer case from Ashcroft. Seems nice. Probably unnecessary

it's unnecessary.. I ran one and frankly unless your in Saudi on the dunes the normal cover is fine. it also makes it a royal Pita to get to the bolts with the exhaust if your driving a v8..
