Replacing P gasket on Def 300tdi-sealant.

Replacing my leaking P gasket. Recommendations for what kind of ?form-gasket?to use with metal gasket. Should it be rigid or semi drying stuff? Have some permatex blue and red. Did it before with no sealant and it failed soon after.

Clean both sides of the gasket mating surface religiously. Use a file on the water neck side if you have to to get it flat.

Use Right Stuff black sealant on both sides of the p gasket then torque to spec

I replaced mine 5 years ago & used Yamaha #4 sealant made for heavy vibration.
Still works today, no leaks.

For a metal gasket I would probably just put it on dry.

I did mine half a dozen times until Jonathan Hanson told me about Toyota "Formed in Place Gasket" - FIPG or fipig. It was the only thing that stopped the leak. I keep it on hand, highly recommended.

With the gasket. Next time I'll try without, but while it's holding I'm not messing with it!
