Remote Bonnet Release Delete

The remote bonnet release handle let go of the cable after 10-20 uses and I would like to convert to old style cable behind-the-grill type (clutter and complexity reducing). Problem is I don't want to stay with the LR grill which gives access for cable actuation.

I like SDO-Jason's grill that is made with a cut-out for cable access but the cut-out is in the center and the cable exit point on my truck is 7" off-center-to the passenger-side. Pulling the cable from that center position would quickly wear through the cable and start a notch in the cable exit hole.

Is there an easy bolt-on solution from an older truck or am I going to have to fabricate a roller inline with the cable exit hole so the cable can be pulled from that center position?

Couldn't you get the grill without the cutout and plan on pulling the screws to gain access to your bonnet release?
Did your failing cable come with a blue label? Perhaps try one with a green label before you modify anything.

Thanks for the response Dave.

I don't know which cable I had. It looked new, so I think Johan's crew installed it when they installed my AC before they shipped from The Netherlands.

I'm bent on getting rid of it and your response got me thinking that I can make a short cable that terminates, and is attached, at the cable's wing routing hole. Just tight enough to enable me to pull on the cable itself using a hook-type spring puller fished through one of the grill holes. I'll let you know if it works.

I'm a fan of the kiss approach.
Immediate increase in the quality of life after the modification.

The old style with the lever requires a new slam panel. I have one for the extended grill models. It’s going on my NAS110 at some point.

I have my cable dangling like a pull cord on a chainsaw on the red truck and the white truck has hood pins (which I hated at first but have to come to like).

I think when I looked 10 years ago they were all superseded NLA. The set up also had a lock on the bonnet rather than the pointed secondary latch. 83 and 84 I saw them on (maybe they went later).

My 1986 110 has the direct lever style (& separate lock for the bonnet). Parts catalogue shows MRC6977 for the bonnet catch & MRC6978 for the top washer plate. A lot of sites list them, but many show out of stock or back ordered. Looks like it may have been used on Series 3 up to 1994 Defenders.
