Rear Tub Inner Support Bars / D110 County Station Wagon

In addition to being very sturdy seat belt anchors (or tie-downs), are these inside rear tub bars needed for structural support? I am considering installing a "Troy" box, which would require removing one of them.

Are those inner support bars factory original? If so, when did Land Rover start putting them in? My 1986 County didn't have them when I got it & I don't have bolt holes in those locations.

It was fully implemented in ROW and NAS. UK began having these bars in 2000 when many ROW variants also had it. My 99 110 CSW has them

These inner bars do have been added sometime in the 90s, though I do not recall this being mentioned in James Taylor's comprehensive Defender books (though this may be too small of a detail). The bars are extremely sturdy, and make excellent tie-down points.

I guess one way to answer my question is if who anyone has a *non* county five door from the late 90s could see if their truck has these (without seatbelts).

They won’t unless retrofitted. 🤷‍♂️

Interesting. I only know older ROW and they don’t have them.
Every single ROW LHD I have ever seen post 96 MY has them as well as all all RHD UK variants. We get tonnes up here in Canada as with the 15 year rule we are now getting Td4s and Pumas and they all have em. 👍🏻

From what I can tell, they were added in 1995 for all 3rd row seating. Likely only stopped doing this when they switched to forward facing lock & folds. Prior to 1995 they had under tub supports

Im guessing ones without them did not get factory 3rd row seating. Likely only installed for the 9/10/12 seater trucks

The key question is whether your ROW truck came from the factory with third-row seats or they were added later--in the case of my 90, using very large washers as seat-belt anchors....

Good question - I have zero idea how it was provisioned from the factory. There was one very poorly attached 3rd row bench when I got it. Has since been swapped out for loc + fold's, so, 🤷‍♂️
