Ran out of fuel - How to bleed system?

I?m posting this for a buddy, (no seriously it?s not me).
So...my buddy was ideling his D in the driveway and ran it dry.
Any idea how to bleed the system to get the air out?
His truck is a 1989 3.5 V8 gas.

If he just fills up the tank will it sort of work itself out over time?

Just crank the engine until it runs.

3.5 gas has an electric fuel pump that can be heard running. Pull the choke cable out and start the truck
