Quick fix for a cracked rear door welds

The weld on my rear door finally gave right before fitting larger tires. I decided to install a tire carrier but that didn't stop the annoying squeaking so I came up with this idea. 10 minutes, a drill and 4 pop rivets did the trick.

You may unfortunately develop a squeak again as the crack propagates. This one is an easy grind, tack weld, grind, re spray with color matched spray paint but if the weight is off now maybe it will stand the test of time.

Looks like my rear was re welded at one point in the past before it broke again and had to fix it. One has to wonder how they failed to update the massive design flaw of a rear door until rather recently. My Land Cruiser FJ-40 came stock with a tubular steel wheel carrier  Oh well. Still have to fix the other 5 cracks on the braces :D

All that spare tire weight rips those doors apart.

The weight and the lack of a gas strut on the door. We are installing gas struts on all side swing tailgates and sw rear doors. They help open and hold a door when the truck is off camber to the drivers side and slow the opening of the door when off camber to the passenger side. The compression of the shock/strut keeps you from slamming the door which is what cracks the internal frames.
