Are the input and output splines the same? How different is the chassis mount pattern?
its exactly the same with the exception of the drop arm. on a disco its flat and made for a tie rod end , on a defender its bent and made for the gooseneck. can be swapped

Sound like you’re referring to a D1 box. Jimmy mentioned adapting a D2 box, which is an interesting idea.

I actually wonder if it more has to do with the fact that the d2 has a steering cooler. Defenders don’t seem to leak as much as a D1 and they also have really long lines that act as coolers effectively.

I was thinking of adding a cooler in the circuit to help minimize issues when the weather is hot. All of the cars I have had with power steering except for a Jeep, had one.

Let me know if you still need one... I have one out of a DI that was going to the recycler.
Hey If I can help you out, by you helping me out I'm more than OK with it. I have a lot of idle time now where I can't lift super heavy things, and rebuilding a box is not a bad idea and can even be therapeutic.

INTERESTING! I’m in the middle of redoing all the lines on my 110/Cummins rebuild and it’s such a good idea I’m ordering the Derale 13250 (https://derale.com/product-footer/fluid-coolers/power-steering/13250-detail) which will fit perfectly on my front crossmember!

Perfect example of project creep. Hell, I’d name my project “project: Creep” if it didn’t sound so wrong!

Good idea indeed. Can always name it Creeper and paint it green
