Please talk me out of ordering a diesel Gladiator

I never thought in a million years I’d consider buying a Chrysler product. I’ve owned a couple of NAS 90s and love/hated them.

But I’m so pissed about what JLR did with the new defender. And darn it if Jeep doesn’t keep giving the off road enthusiasts what they want.

now I have 2 kids and I want 4 doors and a bed and respectable towing and diesel and a removal top. So yes I’m considering ordering a diesel gladiator. Can someone please stop me before I become a Jeep bro! JB

The 3.0 diesel is on its third generation. The first two became famous for things like spun main bearings. Failure far higher than gas engines.
The Pentastar engine is far better.

I’d consider that a bonus, the more it breaks down the more it reminds me of a rover

The build quality on the new wranglers is really nice. It's a modern vehicle and I think really the first modern Jeep. I have driven the diesel but in a Grand Cherokee and it was powerful and smooth.

I personally don't especially like the look of the gladiator.

If I had my choice between a gladiator the new defender and the new bronco it would probably end up being the bronco

yeah the look is a little strange. I was thinking 37s and a small lift on the rubicon. I think I could be down with that

What I would ask myself is : am I actually going to use the short bed or is it that I just want/need a Wrangler ?

Got for it. We’re also not happy with the current JLR offerings so we reserved a Bronco to replace our 2005 LR3.

All good advice. maybe I should hang tight a second and consider the Bronco.

...almost forgot, I put down a deposit on the Rivian, so I got that in my back pocket too

I sold my 2015 grand Cherokee w/ the 3.0 just last week. Pre-dieselgate it ran like a champ, 26-32mpg, decent power, and the greendiesel trans and engine tunes were fantastic. After the govt suggested fixes it ran like shit and lost considerable mpg.

I'm sure the 2020 is a different motor. Get jeep wave membership to cover the oil changes, and buy the dealer DEF and you won't have any trouble with warranty.

Good luck

Get a real truck and keep a Defender too. One foot in the practical present and one in LR's glory days.

You described what you want and it is exactly what a diesel gladiator is. Buy one. If you don’t want to be a dudebro all you have to do is buy rims like these and paint them white. No longer part of the crowd.
