Obnoxious newbie first posting

Hey, there -

I'm a long time Land Rover owner that is known to many of you over the last three plus decades... admittedly, I'm new to this site. That's not to say that I haven't spent the better part of my internet lifetime (i.e. many times a day) visiting and posting to various Land Rover websites. It just happens that there used to be another *competing* Defender site that seems to have had a drastic reduction in participants since its refresh, which has led me to sign up here.

At any rate, I miss a lot of normalcy in life, as I'm sure many of you do... which has led me to think about hosting a virtual Land Rover rally. It may not be anything like the ones I've attended (Rovers North '91; Greek Peak; ROAV's drive-in The Gods Must Be Crazy; BSROA Plymouth event; launch of the NAS110, NAS90, NAS90SW, NAS automatic, 2020 "New Defender"; countless British Invasions; etc.) I have no idea how to go about this or what it might look like. I'm not looking to replicate the frustration that comes with work-related meetings and client conferences, but since interstate travel is discouraged and so many of us thrive on socialization, maybe between the group of us we can come up with a fun, novel idea?

I do have one request... and that is, we agree to make it some kind of fundraising event that benefits our local communities. Rather than require a certain amount, maybe a suggested donation of (at least) $5.00? Looking forward to sharing ideas and connecting with many of you.

Welcome and glad you made it over.
Interesting idea. Are you thinking people hit their own trails and live stream their journey?

Thanks!

Exactly that. Although, many of the best trails here in Vermont are beyond cell range. So, maybe a video contribution that gets stitched together - and a livestream chat, maybe setting up by our own campfires?

Haven't fully thought through and am hoping others have better ideas than mine... especially as posting to a list serve is my limit of social media.

Having wheeled in VT for a couple of decades....I'm amazed these days just how good cell service is in comparison to what it was twenty years ago......
Its nice to get out of cell range and almost annoying when I do get back and the dang thing starts binging and buzzing with messages.

I discovered, quite by accident, that if I leave the phone inside the "Tuffy" metal cubby box it doesn't ring at all :)

Iowa ... plenty of "gravel" roads ... almost no "trails" :( but I'm game to play along.

I know what you mean, Chris. It was actually a 'bad thing' in my mind when cell service came to Mad River Glen two or three years ago... until that point, it was safety. No work calls allowed!

Vermont is beyond cell range?

I'm making a trip along where the red line is over this weekend, I expect to have some kind of cell coverage most of the time. Although streaming wouldn't be a thing. But I'll be documenting some of it in some way. I should be using more video anyway. I like the idea of a thread that is just video diaries of our trips, or something along those lines.

Yes, Vermont is severely lacking in cell service. Tons of trails and camping areas have no cell service in southern VT where all the trails are
