North Carolina Rovers and Garages

It's official: my wife, son, and I are moving back to NC after six years in Florida. She accepted a job with UNC Healthcare so we're going to land in Chapel Hill initially. Likely going to start with a Townhouse or something small until I find work and we settle in on where to live long term. In the short term I will need a garage (or at least parking) for my landy. My folks live in Cary and my wife's live in Sanford so I may have some options with either of those but would prefer a closer garage. Anyone have any recommendations on a group garage or something in the area? I did find a self storage place nearby that allows cars but that's going to be tight.

Also, what's the Rover scene like these days? What's the latest with clubs in the area, where are the happy hours, etc.?

Moving in September so have a little time...

I don't know of any group garages. Im sure if you needed a place to wrench there are plenty of us around to allow some garage space.

There are quite a few Rovers in the Triangle. Few of us meet up at various breweries once a month or so.

Thanks!

Really looking forward to getting back to the Triangle. I've sent a few messages back and forth with Rob now and it sounds like there is cool group. I look forward to meeting everyone in a couple weeks.

Guess I need to finish my last project of rebuilding the swivels and hubs so my 90 will be road worthy for the trip!

Check the fine print of any storage place. I was about to sign on a 10x15 unit when I noticed that they require an empty fuel tank and no batteries. For long term storage it might be ok, but if you want to use it on weekends it will be a real pain in the ass.

Great point. It seems from my quick research that most places don't allow for car storage at all and they all seem to have clauses about not storing hazardous materials (like gasoline). I found one close by that is locally owned and the manager told me that he's had a couple garage renters do exactly what I'd like to do: store the car in drivable condition so I can take it out when I'd like. We'll see what else I can come up with as it would be nice to have enough space to turn some wrenches too...

mike I was going to suggest some of the boat storage places - near lake Jordan (actually reasonably close to chapel hill.. there are a bunch of them and many have power outlets and you can store in useable condition since they are geared at boaters who use them every weekend.
